Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Document from the year 2017 in the subject Medicine - Pathology, grade: 1, Egerton University, language: English, abstract: Autopsy is a valuable procedure performed by a qualified physician to assess the quality of patient care to evaluate clinical diagnostic accuracy. In addition, autopsy determines the effectiveness and impact of therapeutic regimens in discovering and defining new or changing diseases to increase the understanding of biological processes of disease. It also helps in augmenting clinical and basic research, to provide accurate public health and education as it relates to disease and medico - legal factual information. The benefits of forensic autopsy in criminology are undisputed; it allows the pathologist to see, and describe findings that were previously demonstrated and confirmed through the use of histology for confirmation. In practice, there is abundant evidence that clinical diagnosis still have room for improvement and that autopsy has much to contribute to the improvement of patient care. However, forensic pathology requires extensive understanding on postmortem and antemortem differences for accurate reporting of postmortem examinations. Therefore, this paper will provide comparisons between antemortem and postmortem injuries. It will also attempt to demystify the criticism surrounding autopsy (postmortem) by evaluating the drawbacks associated to all the methods applied in the assessment of bruises.

Book Synopsis Forensic Pathology of Trauma by : Michael J. Shkrum
Download or read book Forensic Pathology of Trauma written by Michael J. Shkrum and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-11-06 with total page 654 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The practice of forensic pathology includes the collection and analysis of evidence in relation to a corpse in order to establish the cause of death. Knowledge of the cause of death contributes to the determination of the manner of death by medical examiners and coroners, who are occasionally assisted by law enforcement officers. In the process of establishing the cause and manner of death, representatives of various investigative bodies have several responsibilities, including explaining the death to family members, attempting to reduce the risk of similar deaths in the future, and, if applicable, apprehending the individuals who are responsible for the death. The most well-known and popular role of a forensic pathologist is in the inves- gation of cases of suspicious death; however, most medicolegal autopsies involve unexpected deaths that are above suspicion, many of which are caused by trauma (trauma being defined as any physical force or agent that causes bodily harm). The purpose of Forensic Pathology of Trauma: Common Problems for the Pathologist is to provide practical advice and information about the conduct of the forensic autopsy in cases of trauma, and to offer guidance about the analysis of the autopsy findings in these cases.

Book Synopsis Death, Posthumous Harm, and Bioethics by : James Stacey Taylor
Download or read book Death, Posthumous Harm, and Bioethics written by James Stacey Taylor and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Death, Posthumous Harm, and Bioethics offers a highly distinctive and original approach to the metaphysics of death and applies this approach to contemporary debates in bioethics that address end-of-life and post-mortem issues. Taylor defends the controversial Epicurean view that death is not a harm to the person who dies and the neo-Epicurean thesis that persons cannot be affected by events that occur after their deaths, and hence that posthumous harms (and benefits) are impossible. He then extends this argument by asserting that the dead cannot be wronged, finally presenting a defence of revisionary views concerning posthumous organ procurement.
