Download or read book High Frequency Over-the-Horizon Radar written by Giuseppe Aureliano Fabrizio and published by McGraw Hill Professional. This book was released on 2013-07-09 with total page 946 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE MOST COMPLETE GUIDE TO HIGH FREQUENCY OVER-THE-HORIZON RADAR Written by a leading global expert on the topic, High Frequency Over-the-Horizon Radar provides in-depth coverage of the signal processing models and techniques that have significantly advanced OTH radar technology. This pioneering work describes the fundamental principles of OTH radar design and operation, and then delves into the mathematical modeling of HF signals received by actual OTH radar systems based on experimental data analysis. Numerous examples illustrate the practical application of modern adaptive signal processing techniques to real and simulated OTH radar data. This authoritative text covers skywave and surface-wave systems and is an invaluable resource for researchers, engineers, and practitioners working with OTH radar systems and technologies.
Book Synopsis An Analysis of the Potential for Using Over-the-Horizon Radar Systems for Space Surveillance by : Matthew Colbert

This book was released on 2004-03 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Australian Defence Force is investigating the development of a space surveillance system. While several dedicated facilities for space surveillance are in operation around the world, Australia s Over-The-Horizon Radar (OTHR) network has some potential for this role. The OTHR operates in the HF band and is constrained by the propagation effects of the ionosphere. A spherically stratified ionospheric model and a model for a nominal OTHR antenna are developed that allow calculation of path propagation, power distribution, and clutter returns. A software-based radar receiver processing system is modeled to determine detection probabilities and the minimum detectable radar cross-section of targets in typical low earth orbit (LEO) trajectories. The high clutter power levels, coupled with long target ranges and high velocities, mean that range-Doppler tradeoffs have a great impact on the resulting detection capabilities. While the system as modeled has the potential to provide some coverage for LEO targets, operational constraints mean the necessary conditions for detection of space targets would rarely be met while the system is involved in traditional OTHR tasking. Further, the long wavelengths and large antenna beams mean the accuracy of any positioning information is low. This book was released on 2016-08-29 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: World War II defined its heroes and villains. There are many books on national leaders like Churchill and Hitler, generals like Montgomery and Rommel. Less has been written about the civilian scientists, engineers, and technicians whose work produced military innovations that drove the direction and outcome of that terrible conflict. This book is a connected and interlaced narrative of two men who were World War II civilian scientists. It is a non-technical portrait of two twentieth-century life stories against a backdrop of war and peace, which are important in both historical context and as illustrations of the human condition lived in extraordinary circumstances. The lives of A. P. Rowe and John Strath intersected in the British development of radar in the 1930s and 1940s and then diverged into critical roles in Britain and Australia after the war. Rowe and Strath worked in Britains epic development of radar defences, without which the 1940 aerial Battle of Britain would have been lost. Rowe led what has been termed as one of the most successful research establishments of all time, focussed on the development and deployment of radar; Strath was a junior member of that establishment. After the war, both men moved to Australia where Rowe, after a short and unhappy involvement as lead scientific adviser on the development of Australia's Woomera rocket range and Australian defence, was for a decade a highly contentious vice chancellor of the University of Adelaide. Strath became involved in development of the British atomic weapon and monitoring of nuclear test effects in Australia and then became the prime mover for development of what is now Australias Jindalee Operational Radar Network, a major component of the countrys long-range defence surveillance.
Book Synopsis Australia's American Alliance by : Peter Dean
Download or read book Australia's American Alliance written by Peter Dean and published by Melbourne Univ. Publishing. This book was released on 2016-11-14 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is specifically designed as a companion volume to Australia's Defence: Towards a New Era? The Australia-United States Alliance has been critical to Australian foreign and defence policy since the ANZUS Treaty was signed in 1951. For 63 years it has been an enduring feature of Australian defence planning, yet the contemporary alliance is, arguably, in one of the more important phases of reinterpretation in its long history. While the Alliance by its very nature is a bi-lateral relationship, this book will therefore specifically focus on Australian perspectives and policy choices, while providing context on the role of the United States in the Asia-Pacific and its position as a global power.
