Book Synopsis Fatigue Testing and Analysis by : Yung-Li Lee
Download or read book Fatigue Testing and Analysis written by Yung-Li Lee and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2011-04-18 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fatigue Testing and Analysis: Theory and Practice presents the latest, proven techniques for fatigue data acquisition, data analysis, and test planning and practice. More specifically, it covers the most comprehensive methods to capture the component load, to characterize the scatter of product fatigue resistance and loading, to perform the fatigue damage assessment of a product, and to develop an accelerated life test plan for reliability target demonstration. This book is most useful for test and design engineers in the ground vehicle industry. Fatigue Testing and Analysis introduces the methods to account for variability of loads and statistical fatigue properties that are useful for further probabilistic fatigue analysis. The text incorporates and demonstrates approaches that account for randomness of loading and materials, and covers the applications and demonstrations of both linear and double-linear damage rules. The reader will benefit from summaries of load transducer designs and data acquisition techniques, applications of both linear and non-linear damage rules and methods, and techniques to determine the statistical fatigue properties for the nominal stress-life and the local strain-life methods. - Covers the useful techniques for component load measurement and data acquisition, fatigue properties determination, fatigue analysis, and accelerated life test criteria development, and, most importantly, test plans for reliability demonstrations - Written from a practical point of view, based on the authors' industrial and academic experience in automotive engineering design - Extensive practical examples are used to illustrate the main concepts in all chapters

Book Synopsis Development of a Full-scale Transmission Testing Procedure to Evaluate Advanced Lubricants by : David G. Lewicki
Download or read book Development of a Full-scale Transmission Testing Procedure to Evaluate Advanced Lubricants written by David G. Lewicki and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experimental tests were performed on the OH-58A helicopter main-rotor transmission in the NASA Lewis 500-hp Helicopter Transmission Test Stand. The testing was part of a joint Navy/NASA/Army lubrication program to develop a separate lubricant for gearboxes that would improve life and load-carrying capacity. The goal of the experiments was to develop a testing procedure using a MIL-L-23699 base reference oil to fail certain transmission components, and then to run identical tests with improved lubricants and demonstrate improved performance. The tests were directed at failing components that have given the Navy problems because of marginal lubrication. These failures included mast-shaft bearing micropitting, sun gear and planet bearing fatigue, and spiral bevel gear scoring. More than 900 hr of total run time were accumulated for these tests. Some success was achieved in developing a testing procedure to produce sun gear and planet bearing fatigue failures. Only marginal success was achieved in producing mast-shaft bearing micropitting and spiral bevel gear scoring.

Book Synopsis Harmonization of Testing Practice for High Temperature Materials by : M.S. Loveday
Download or read book Harmonization of Testing Practice for High Temperature Materials written by M.S. Loveday and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-12-20 with total page 407 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present decade is opening new frontiers in high-energy astrophysics. After the X-ray satellites in the 1980's, including Einstein, Tenma, EXOSAT and Ginga, several satellites are, or will soon be, simultaneously in orbit offering spectacular advances in X-ray imaging at low energies (ROSATj Yohkoh) as well as at high energies (GRANAT), in spectroscopy with increased bandwidth (ASCAj SAX), and in timing (XTE). While these satellites allow us to study atomic radiation from hot plasmas or energetic electrons, other satellites study nuclear radiation at gamma-ray energies (CGRO) associated with radioactivity or spallation reactions. These experiments show that the whole universe is emitting radiation at high energies, hence we call it the "hot universe. " The hot universe, preferentially emitting X- and gamma-rays, provides us with many surprises and much information. A symposium "The Hot Universe" was held in conjunction with the XXIIIrd General Assembly of the International Astronomical Union, at Kyoto on August 26-30 in 1997. The proceedings are organized as follows. Synthetic view of "the hot universe" is discussed in Section 1, "Plasma and Fresh Nucleosynthesis Phenomena". Timely discussions on the strategy for future missions "Future Space Program" are found in Section 2. Then the contents are divided into two major subjects: the compact objects and thin hot diffuse plasmas. Section 3 is devoted to the category of compact objects which includes white dwarfs, neutron stars, and gravitationally collapsed objects: stellar mass black holes or active galactic nuclei.

Book Synopsis Unsettled Topics on Surface Finishing of Metallic Powder Bed Fusion Parts in the Mobility Industry by : Kevin Slattery
Download or read book Unsettled Topics on Surface Finishing of Metallic Powder Bed Fusion Parts in the Mobility Industry written by Kevin Slattery and published by SAE International. This book was released on 2021-01-18 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Laser and electron-beam powder bed fusion (PBF) additive manufacturing (AM) technology has transitioned from prototypes and tooling to production components in demanding fields such as medicine and aerospace. Some of these components have geometries that can only be made using AM. Initial applications either take advantage of the relatively high surface roughness of metal PBF parts, or they are in fatigue, corrosion, or flow environments where surface roughness does not impose performance penalties. To move to the next levels of performance, the surfaces of laser and electron-beam PBF components will need to be smoother than the current as-printed surfaces. This will also have to be achieve on increasingly more complex geometries without significantly increasing the cost of the final component. Unsettled Topics on Surface Finishing of Metallic Powder Bed Fusion Parts in the Mobility Industry addresses the challenges and opportunities of this technology, and what remains to be agreed upon by the industry.
