He is taken back up to emergency and then transferred to a sanatorium for long term care. While in a coma, Joe starts to Astral Plain, having 'Out of Body Experiences'. On his travels he is seen by a group of University Students who are studying this phenomena and they follow him, but the 'Spirit of Evil' is also there and it forces the students to kill 3 people. Suspicion is thrown onto Joe, but O'Neil does not like open and shut cases and delves further. Joe finds he can talk to his mother through her mind and with her help identifies the spirits to O'Neil, but cannot identify 'The Evil Spirit'. O'Neil has to find the evidence he needs to charge the people involved with the murders and finally finds the truth.
