Download or read book Transformations Selected Works of G.B. Olson on Materials, Microstrucutre, and Design written by C.E. Campbell and published by ASM International. This book was released on 2017-10-01 with total page 569 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ASM International and The Minerals, Metals and Materials Society (TMS) have collaborated to present a collection of the selected works of Dr. Greg B. Olson in honor of his 70th birthday in 2017. This collection highlights his influential contributions to the understanding of martensite transformations and the development and application of a systems design approach to materials. Part I: Martensite, with an Introduction by Sir Harry Bhadeshia, emphasizes Dr. Olson's work to develop a dislocation theory for martensite transformations, to improve the understanding of the statistical nature of martensite nucleation, and to expand use of quantitative microscopy to characterize phase transformations. Part II: Materials Design, with an Introduction by Dr. Charles Kuehmann, focuses on the application of a systems design approach to materials and the development of integrated computational design curriculum for undergraduate education. Part II includes several examples of the systems design approach to a variety of applications. The papers chosen for this collection were selected by the editors with input from Dr. Olson.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 1965 Transactions of the Third International Vacuum Congress, Volume 2 presents the methods for the epitaxial growth of silicon, which makes use of an ultra-thin layer of a silicon alloy on the substrate surface to develop epitaxial layers at temperature as low as 750°C. This book discusses the potential advantages of the technique and the mechanism of the epitaxial growth process. Organized into four sessions encompassing 42 chapters, this volume starts with an overview of the exact influence of the thin alloy layer. This text then describes the novel X-ray method and its application to semiconductor thin-film problems. Other chapters consider the field of electronic carrier transport in semiconductor films with particular reference to active thin-film devices and their typical behavior. The final chapter deals with the beta-ray single-scatter gauge, which are tested and described in very simple operation. This book is a valuable resource for physicists and scientists.

Book Synopsis Chemical Physics of Solids and Their Surfaces by : M W Roberts
Download or read book Chemical Physics of Solids and Their Surfaces written by M W Roberts and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2007-10-31 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Specialist Periodical Reports provide systematic and detailed review coverage of progress in the major areas of chemical research. Written by experts in their specialist fields the series creates a unique service for the active research chemist, supplying regular critical in-depth accounts of progress in particular areas of chemistry. For over 80 years the Royal Society of Chemistry and its predecessor, the Chemical Society, have been publishing reports charting developments in chemistry, which originally took the form of Annual Reports. However, by 1967 the whole spectrum of chemistry could no longer be contained within one volume and the series Specialist Periodical Reports was born. The Annual Reports themselves still existed but were divided into two, and subsequently three, volumes covering Inorganic, Organic and Physical Chemistry. For more general coverage of the highlights in chemistry they remain a 'must'. Since that time the SPR series has altered according to the fluctuating degree of activity in various fields of chemistry. Some titles have remained unchanged, while others have altered their emphasis along with their titles; some have been combined under a new name whereas others have had to be discontinued.

Book Synopsis Auger Electron Spectroscopy by : Donald T. Hawkins
Download or read book Auger Electron Spectroscopy written by Donald T. Hawkins and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Auger electron spectroscopy is rapidly developing into the single most powerful analytical technique in basic and applied science.for investigating the chemical and structural properties of solids. Its ex plosive growth beginning in 1967 was triggered by the development of Auger analyzers capable of de tecting one atom layer of material in a fraction of a second. Continued growth was guaranteed firstly by the commercial availability of apparatus which combined the capabilities of scanning electron mi croscopy and ion-mill depth profiling with Auger analysis, and secondly by the increasing need to know the atomistics of many processes in fundamental research and engineering applications. The expanding use of Auger analysis was accompanied by an increase in the number of publications dealing with it. Because of the developing nature of Auger spectroscopy, the articles have appeared in many different sources covering diverse disciplines, so that it is extremely difficult to discover just what has or has not been subjected to Auger analysis. In this situation, a comprehensive bibliography is obviou-sly useful to those both inside and outside the field. For those in the field, this bibliography should be a wonderful time saver for locating certain references, in researching a particular topic, or when considering various aspects of instrumentation or data analysis. This bibliography not only provides the most complete listing of references pertinent to surface Auger analysis available today, but it is also a basis for extrapolating from past trends to future expectations.
