Book Synopsis Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences by : Wade H. Shafer
Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1 957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all con cerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an interna tional publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Cor poration of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 28 (thesis year 1 983) a total of 10,661 theses titles from 26 Canadian and 197 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. While Volume 28 reports theses submitted in-1983, on occasion, certain univer sities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

Book Synopsis Refractive Index Increments of Polymers in Solution: 2. Refractive Index Increments and Light-Scattering in Polydisperse Systems of Low Molecular Weight by : J. W. Lorimer
Download or read book Refractive Index Increments of Polymers in Solution: 2. Refractive Index Increments and Light-Scattering in Polydisperse Systems of Low Molecular Weight written by J. W. Lorimer and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theoretical equations are deduced which predict that the specific refractive index of a polymer in solution is v=v(infinity)+v(0)/M(n), where M(n) is the number average molecular weight, and v(infinity)and v(0) depend on the refractive index, n(1), of the solvent, on the specific refractivity of the pure polymer, and on the specific volume of the polymer in solution. Mixtures of two polymers whose refractive increments depend on molecular weight are also considered. Methods of distinguishing the effects of polydispersity of composition from effects due to the dependence of the average v on the average molecular weight are discussed for mixtures of components whose individual properties are unknown. Book Synopsis Hyperbranched Polymers for Biomedical Applications by : Abhijit Bandyopadhyay
Download or read book Hyperbranched Polymers for Biomedical Applications written by Abhijit Bandyopadhyay and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-09-18 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a comprehensive study on a new class of branched polymers, known as hyperbranched polymers (HBPs). It discusses in detail the synthesis strategies for these particular classes of polymers as well as biocompatible and biodegradable HBPs, which are of increasing interest to polymer technologists due to their immense potential in biomedical applications. The book also describes the one-pot synthesis technique for HBPs, which is feasible for large-scale production, as well as HBPs’ structure-property relationship, which makes them superior to their linear counterparts. The alterable functional groups present at the terminal ends of the branches make HBPs promising candidates in the biomedical domain, and the book specifically elaborates on the suitable characteristic properties of each of the potential biological HBPs’ applications. As such, the book offers a valuable reference guide for all scientists and technologists who are interested in using these newly developed techniques to achieve faster and better treatments.

Book Synopsis Size Exclusion Chromatography by : Sadao Mori
Download or read book Size Exclusion Chromatography written by Sadao Mori and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although size exclusion chromatography (SEC) is perhaps the most popular and widely used technique for determining the molecular weight distribution of polymeric materials, there have been very few texts written on this topic. During the past decade, SEC has experienced a considerable amount of growth in regard to column and detector technology and new applications. With these advances, SEC can now be used for determining absolute molecular weight, polymer chain conformation and size, and branching, as well as polymer solution properties. This book introduces the reader to the fundamentals of SEC with emphasis on practical aspects of the technique, such as column and mobile selection, calibration, new detector capabilities and guidelines for performing SEC on most types of polymers, especially those of industrial importance. This book is intended for either those new to the field of SEC, or for those research workers who require a more comprehensive background.
