Book excerpt: The sequel to my first novel, about my parents and their golden dreams, continues with their arrival to the town where they would live, have their children, and eventually die. They had very little money, no possessions, couldn't speak the language, and had no idea the difficulties they would encounter. Baba Anna came with them, and she proved to be a wonderful addition to the family. They joined St. Mary's RC church, and all the children of school age were enrolled in St. Mary's catholic school. The sisters of St. Agnes taught them and were very strict, but very effective in their strictness. There were quite a few Slovakian families in their small village, so they were able to continue to celebrate some of their customs, which helped them still enjoy what was familiar to them. They built a Slovak hall where their harvest festivals took place, with the songs, dancing, and crowning of the king and queen of the harvest. As the children grew and became adults, they never lost their love, respect, and closeness to their aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Our parents would be proud of their children for the love they have and share with each other. This is a tribute to them for what they taught them as they were growing up.

Book 5 of Volume 1 of the New Message from God contains 14 revelations given to present the reality of your spiritual nature, the crisis of living apart from your deeper nature and how you can escape this crisis and begin the journey of healing the division between your thinking mind with the mind of Knowledge within you. With this comes the possibility of following Knowledge now and in the future, leading you to a new life, new relationships and the fulfillment of your purpose for being in the world. Through this book, you have the opportunity to understand where Knowledge lives in your experience and to build a lasting connection to this deeper experience that has always been with you. Book excerpt: Welcome to Cedar Falls, a small North Carolina town nestled amongst the Smokey Mountains. Jesse Grant was a proud, flamboyant gay man who wasn’t afraid to wear make-up and heels. Not about to change for anyone, not even if that meant he’d been in more than a few fights over the years. Parker Flemming wasn’t sure what to think of Jesse when he walks toward him. Dressed in Daisy Dukes, pink tank top, with matching flip flops, Jesse looked like a dream come true. Too bad Parker had to give up his dream of finding a man like Jesse to settle down with since moving back in with his homophobic mother after his father died. Jesse had always been a "love them and leave them" kind of guy, until he meets Parker, who has his heart racing with just one look. Confused when Parker runs the other way, Jesse isn’t deterred. After all, isn’t the chase half the fun?

Book excerpt: A lonely young woman gets too close to her charismatic female student in this propulsive debut, culminating in a dangerously debauched Midsommar’s Eve. LONGLISTED FOR THE CENTER FOR FICTION FIRST NOVEL PRIZE AND THE VCU CABELL FIRST NOVELIST AWARD • “Memorable and meaningful.”—Claire Messud, New York Times bestselling author of The Burning Girl Lauren Cress teaches writing at a small college outside of Washington, DC. In the classroom, she is poised, smart, and kind, well liked by her students and colleagues. But in her personal life, Lauren is troubled and isolated, still grappling with the sudden death of her parents ten years earlier. She seems to exist at a remove from everyone around her until a new student joins her class: charming, magnetic Siri, who appears to be everything Lauren wishes she could be. They fall headlong into an all-consuming friendship that makes Lauren feel as though she is reclaiming her lost adolescence. When Siri invites her on a trip home to Sweden for the summer, Lauren impulsively accepts, intrigued by how Siri describes it: green, fresh, and new, everything just thawing out. But once there, Lauren finds herself drawn to Siri’s enigmatic, brooding brother, Magnus. Siri is resentful, and Lauren starts to see a new side of her friend: selfish, reckless, self-destructive, even cruel. On their last night together, Lauren accompanies Siri and her friends on a seaside camping trip to celebrate Midsommar’s Eve, a night when no one sleeps, boundaries blur, and under the light of the unsetting sun, things take a dark turn. Ultimately, Lauren must acknowledge the truth of what happened with Siri and come to terms with her own tragic past in this gorgeously written, deeply felt debut about the transformative relationships that often come to us when things feel darkest. Praise for The All-Night Sun “Inventive and luminous . . . Zinna’s intimate debut dazzles with original language, emotional sentience, and Swedish folklore as it plumbs the depths of grief, loss, and friendship . . . Zinna reaches an inspired emotional depth that, as the title signifies, never stops blazing.”—Publishers Weekly (starred review)

Book excerpt: One warm July night, when thoughts of Ireland are far from James Dwyer's mind, a homeless man with a sunburnt face, who smells like dry wood, comes to the screen door of his Michigan apartment. Walter has two messages. The first is that an old lady is lying in the middle of his street. But when James goes to look there's nobody to be seen. The second, while apparently more ordinary, is ultimately more troubling: a childhood friend wants him to visit. Kevin Lyons, the wayward older son of a neighbouring builder James knew long ago as a boy in Tipperary, now lives in the USA too, and wants to reconnect with his past. But James, who has spent years establishing the foundations of his American life, has put that past behind him. As the day of the visit approaches, James slowly re-examines the mysteries of that time: what happened to Aunt Tess, who went away to become a nurse in Dublin; what Kevin's father was really doing late at night by candlelight in his makeshift office in the yard; what became of Kevin's red-haired sister Una, who young Jimmy fell for in a big way and whether, after all these years, people like Kevin ever really change. The Visitors is a captivating story of the interwoven fates of two families, of the gap between childhood and the adult world, between a river in Ireland (and all that happened there) and another in America, and of the shocking revelations that come with crossing the divide.
