Book Synopsis Cruising Guide to the Leeward Islands by : Chris Doyle
Download or read book Cruising Guide to the Leeward Islands written by Chris Doyle and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fair winds and fine cruising is author Chris Doyle's wish for readers of this popular, newly updated guide to the 10 island nations of this enchanting Caribbean chain.Doyle's background in research makes this volume rich in practical details; yet its tone is conversational. His is also an intimate knowledge, gathered from more than 20 years of live-aboard Caribbean cruising on his Carib 41 Helos, a former charterboat. The Leewards are a cultural and topographic mix, and Doyle addresses them by geographical grouping. The Renaissance Islands (St. Martin, St. Barts and Anguilla), an economically strong bareboating enclave, offer short cruising passages and a wide choice of anchorages. The Islands That Brush the Clouds - a volcanic chain strung between Saba and Montserrat - present cruisers with a variety of channels and terrain. Most broadly strewn are the Islands of Mountains and Mangroves, a patchwork chiefly of rugged rainforest and exotic fauna, guarded in spots by spectacular reefs. The southern Leewards in particular have cried for reliable charting. Doyle provides aid throughout, using GPS coordinates, a trove of charts and color maps. All are cross-referenced with the newly released Caribbean Yachting Charts, exactingly detailed and available through Cruising Guide Publications. Spectacular photographs add a visual feast.Onshore accommodations, transportation, communications, entertainment and provisioning are also addressed throughout the guide, and in an exhaustive directory by island and service type.

Download or read book Nautical Almanac 2021 written by Government Publications Office and published by . This book was released on 2020-06-05 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For over 150 years the United States Nautical Almanac Office has published The Nautical Almanac, first as part of the American Ephemeris and Nautical Almanac, and then on its own, to provide the US Navy with a convenient form of the astronomical data used for celestial navigation. This book is still the standard resource for marine celestial navigation for the U.S. Navy. The book is produced in collaboration with Her Majesty's Nautical Almanac Office, part of the U.K. Hydrographic Office. That Office maintains the copyright on the material it produces. The Nautical Almanac contains the following data tabulated at hourly intervals to a precision of 0.1 arcminute: the Greenwich hour angle and declination of the Sun, Moon, and navigational planets; the Greenwich hour angle of Aries; positions of the navigational stars; rise and set times of the Sun and Moon for a range of latitudes; and other data. Each edition also contains a sight reduction table; sight reduction formulas; and various correction tables for sight reduction. There is a useful concise sight reduction form at the back of the book. The Nautical Almanac is available several months in advance of its edition date.
