Book Synopsis The Creature Chronicles by : Tom Weaver,
Download or read book The Creature Chronicles written by Tom Weaver, and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2017-02-06 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: He was the final addition to Universal's "royal family" of movie monsters: the Creature from the Black Lagoon. With his scaly armor, razor claws and a face only a mother octopus could love, this Amazon denizen was perhaps the most fearsome beast in the history of Hollywood's Studio of Horrors. But he also possessed a sympathetic quality which elevated him fathoms above the many aquatic monsters who swam in his wake. Everything you ever wanted to know about the Gill Man and his mid-1950s film career (Creature from the Black Lagoon, Revenge of the Creature, The Creature Walks Among Us) is collected in this book, packed to the gills with hour-by-hour production histories, cast bios, analyses, explorations of the music, script-to-screen comparisons, in-depth interviews and an ocean of fin-tastic photos.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a critical overview of monster magazines from the 1950s through the 1970s. "Monster magazine" is a blanket term to describe both magazines that focus primarily on popular horror movies and magazines that contain stories featuring monsters, both of which are illustrated in comic book style and printed in black and white. The book describes the rise and fall of these magazines, examining the contributions of Marvel Comics and several other well-known companies, as well as evaluating the effect of the Comics Code Authority on both present and future efforts in the field. It identifies several sub-genres, including monster movies, zombies, vampires, sword-and-sorcery, and pulp-style fiction. The work includes several indexes and technical credits.

Download or read book Revenge of the Creature from the Black Lagoon written by Ronald Paul Milione and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2023-07-25 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Revenge of the Creature from the Black Lagoon, Behind the Scenes Introduction Revenge of the Creature (Universal 1955) The success of Universal's Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954) inevitably led to a sequel, and Revenge of the Creature duly followed just five months later. Again, directed by Jack Arnold, Revenge of the Creature takes the plot to the Marineland of Florida oceanarium. Captured in his native habitat, the hapless gill man is transported to the south Florida oceanarium as a visitor attraction. Predictably, our fishy friend falls for young ichthyology student Helen Dobson (Lori Nelson), who in turn has her eye on admirer Professor Clete Ferguson (John Agar). Of course, it all goes gills-up as the creature escapes, terrorizing the neighborhood as he tracks Helen down to a motel and steals her back. Riddled with bullets by local police, he heads seaward in a bid for freedom. As with the first film, sympathies are most decidedly with the creature; man is the enemy who exploits nature for profit, so it's a pity that he wins out in the end really. Arnold directs Martin Berkeley's screenplay, with guts and liveliness, allowing the creature to deliciously run amok. Now remembered along with King Kong and Godzilla as one of the most horrific monsters of the silver screen, Browning had the underwater role of the amphibious monster in the Universal Studios black-and-white horror flick, originally shot in 3-D. Browning then continued filling that role in two sequels, "Revenge of the Creature" and "The Creature Walks Among Us."

Book Synopsis My Sister from the Black Lagoon by : Laurie Fox
Download or read book My Sister from the Black Lagoon written by Laurie Fox and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2010-05-11 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "I was born into a mentally ill family. My sister was the officially crazy one, but really we were all nuts." So begins My Sister from the Black Lagoon, Laurie Fox's incandescent novel of growing up absurd. Lorna Person's tale is wrested from the shadows cast by her sister, Lonnie, whose rages command the full attention of her parents. Their San Fernando Valley household is off-key and out of kilter, a place where Lonnie sees evil in the morning toast and runs into the Burbank hills to join the animals that seem more like her kin. Lorna, on the other hand, is an acutely sensitive girl who can't relate to Barbie. "Could Barbie feel sorrow? Could Barbie understand what it's like to be plump, lonely, Jewish?" My Sister from the Black Lagoon is a wisecracked bell jar, a heartbreaking study of sane and crazy. Laurie Fox's delightful voice is knowing yet wide-eyed, lyrical, and witty.
