Book Synopsis God the Creator by : Robert Cummings Neville
Download or read book God the Creator written by Robert Cummings Neville and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 1992-02-13 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God the Creator provides a detailed exposition of a conception of God as the creator of everything determinate. It does not defend an established conception such as the Thomist, the Calvinist, or the Process theological idea, but rather elaborates the ancient theme of creation ex nihilo in a new form appropriate to the contemporary world. Part one is a rigorous philosophical development of the idea of God as creator ex nihilo, arguing that an adequate solution to the problem of the one and the many demands such a conception. This part includes a dialectical examination of contemporary and classical theories of being. Part two asks how one can have knowledge of the kind of God described previously; it deals with experience, analogy, and dialectic. Part three applies the conception developed in part one to fundamental religious conceptions such as the object of worship, the nature of religion, and the practices of private and public religious life. It presents theories arising from the conception of creation ex nihilo for the interpretation of religious concern, conversion, faith, certainty, solitude, bliss, service, liturgy, providence, evangelism, dedication, reconciliation, brotherhood, discipline, the integration of public and private religion relative to other dimensions of life, freedom, love, and glory. Though the language arises from the Christian tradition and expresses an orthodox strand of that religion, the argument weaves throughout the concerns of many world religions.
Book Synopsis God the Creator by : Ben C. Ollenburger
Download or read book God the Creator written by Ben C. Ollenburger and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2023-04-18 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christians today are focused on two important creation topics: how the world came to be and how we should care for it. A highly respected Old Testament theologian recommends that before discussing these questions, we focus on God the Creator and God's ongoing work in creation. We should explore what the Bible tells us and let the text set the agenda for our reflections. Combining his storytelling gift with rigorous biblical exegesis and deep reflection, Ben Ollenburger describes the action of God the Creator as presented throughout the Old Testament. He shows how creation is about more than origins. It is about God acting against the hostile forces of chaos that can be historical, political, and military. About how God created a well-ordered world, and how human transgression ruptures God's relationship with humans and threatens creation. About how God responds as Creator to those threats by disturbing and reordering the disorder, bringing about what God intended--a world ordered in the social, political, and natural realms that is characterized by the justice, righteousness, and peace required for human flourishing.

The author of this book is very excited to share his joy of a life-changing discovery he made with everyone who will pick up this book. He is glad to tell everyone that the seal has been broken off from what Jesus said in Luke 13: 32. And he said unto them, Go ye, and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and I do cures to day and to morrow, and the third day I shall be perfected. This is the conclusion of the matter: There is a first day Church that enjoys the Lord's presence and a second day Church that knows His burden removing yoke destroying power that does great exploits in this world. However, there is a 3RD DAY CHURCH that walks in the weight of His glory and splendour that is well able to bring order and decency, peace and joy in the Holy Ghost in a crazy world. This is the Church that walks in His perfect will, whose desire has become His desire; therefore, the whole universe is cooperating with this dynamic church. This is the Church that will bring about a sudden shift in the affairs of humanity. This is that GIANT that everyone was talking about She is the glorious Church that has been made ready to do kingdom business and to occupy all influential places in this world until He comes back again. It is not a Church that is passively waiting for His coming! And He (Jesus) called His ten servants (3rd Day Church well equipped Servants), and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy (make business) until I come (Luke 19:13). We have received a Kingdom that cannot be shaken by anything bad that is happening in this world. This Kingdom is eagerly waiting for the saints to possess it. It is an unseen reality, just like Goshen has been to Israelites, which was and is a place where there is nothing missing and nothing broken. Book Synopsis Creator and Creation according to Calvin on Genesis by : Rebekah Earnshaw
Download or read book Creator and Creation according to Calvin on Genesis written by Rebekah Earnshaw and published by Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht. This book was released on 2020-07-13 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In her work Rebekah Earnshaw provides an analysis of Creator and creation according to Calvin on Genesis. This offers a new theological reading of Calvin's Genesis commentary and sermons, with an eye to systematic interests. This analysis is presented in four chapters: The Creator, The Agent and Act of Creation, Creatures, and Providence. Calvin on Genesis gives unique insights into each of these. First, the Creator has priority in Calvin's thought. The Creator is l'Eternal, who is infinitely distinct and abundantly for creatures in his virtues. Second, the agent of creation is triune and the act of creation is "from nothing" as well as in and with time. This is a purposeful beginning. Third, Calvin affirms creaturely goodness and order. The relation of humans and animals illustrates Calvin's holistic view of creation as well as the impact of corruption and disorder. Providential sustenance and concursus are closely tied to the nature of creatures and the initial word. Fourth, fatherly governance for the church is presented separately and demonstrated by Calvin's treatment of Abraham and Joseph. Earlier presentations of Calvin on Creator and creation are incomplete, because of the lack of sustained attention to Calvin on Genesis. This analysis supplements works that concentrated on the Institutes and Calvin on Job, by bringing new material to bear. Further, throughout this analysis lies the implicit example of a biblical theologian, who pursues what is useful from scripture for the sake of piety in the church. Insights from Calvin's thought on Genesis provide a foundation for systematic work that reflects on this locus and the integrated practice of theology.

Book Synopsis Mission Shaped by Promise by : Jukka A. Kääriäinen
Download or read book Mission Shaped by Promise written by Jukka A. Kääriäinen and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2012-10-03 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Utilizing resources from Martin Luther and the Lutheran tradition, this study offers an understanding of the gospel as promise as key to addressing the challenge of relating the missio Dei to a generous, constructive approach toward the religious other. In its construction of a Lutheran missiology, it retrieves and reappropriates four resources from the Lutheran tradition: the gospel as promise, the law/gospel distinction, a theology of grace as promise of mercy fulfilled, and a theology of the cross utilizing the hiddenness of God. The law of God as accusing yet webbing humanity to its Creator; the gospel as the comforting promise of mercy; and the hiddenness of God as mystifying form the overarching framework within which the Lutheran missiology presented here seeks to engage the religious other by dialectically relating gospel proclamation and dialogue. Such a view of "mission shaped by promise" offers the paradox of God being both revealed and hidden in the cross as a distinctive contribution to an interreligious dialogue centered on the ambiguity and hiddenness of God.

Book Synopsis The Promise of Reconciliation? by : Chaiwat Satha-Anand
Download or read book The Promise of Reconciliation? written by Chaiwat Satha-Anand and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-05 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Promise of Reconciliation? explores the relationship between violence, nonviolence, and reconciliation in societal conflicts with questions such as: In what ways does violence impact the reconciliation process that necessarily follows a cessation of deadly conflict? Would an understanding of how conflict has been engaged, with violence or nonviolence, be conducive to how it could be prevented from sliding further into violence? The contributors examine international influences on the peace/reconciliation process in Indonesia's Aceh conflict, as well as the role of Muslim religious scholars in promoting peace. They also examine the effect of violence in southern Thailand, where insurgent violence has provided "leverage" during the fighting, but negatively affects post-conflict objectives. The chapter on Sri Lanka shows that "successful" violence does not necessarily end conflict?Sri Lankan society today is more polarized than it was before its civil war. The Vietnam chapter argues that the rise of nonviolent protest in Vietnam reflects a profound loss of state legitimacy, which cannot be resolved with force, while another chapter on Thailand examines "Red Sunday," a Thai political movement engaged in nonviolent protest in the face of violent government suppression. The book ends with a look at Indonesian cities, sites of ethnic conflicts, as potential abodes of peace if violence can be curtailed.

Book Synopsis The Coming of God by : Jürgen Moltmann
Download or read book The Coming of God written by Jürgen Moltmann and published by Fortress Press. This book was released on 2004-07-27 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of Grawemeyer Award In this remarkable and timely work - in many ways the culmination of his systematic theology - world-renowned theologian Jurgen Moltmann stands Christian eschatology on its head. Moltmann rejects the traditional approach, which focuses on the End, an apocalyptic finale, as a kind of Christian search for the "final solution." He centers instead on hope and God's promise of new creation for all things. "Christian eschatology," he says, "is the remembered hope of the raising of the crucified Christ, so it talks about beginning afresh in the deadly end." Yet Moltmann's novel framework, deeply informed by Jewish and messianic thought, also fosters rich and creative insights into the perennially nettling questions of eschatology: Are there eternal life and personal identity after death? How is one to think of heaven, hell, and purgatory? What are the historical and cosmological dimensions of Christian hope? What are its social and political implications. In a heartbreakingly fragile and fragment world, Moltmann's comprehensive eschatology surveys the Christian vista, bravely envisioning our "horizons of expectation" for personal, social, even cosmic transformation in God.
