Upon arrival, you will notice a lot of bicycles, horse-drawn carriagessome for hauling freight, others for shuttling people to and from their hotelthe maroon Grand Hotel bus, taxis, and public tour carriages. People are walking on the streets and sidewalks as well. If you arrive in late May or early June, you will have a chance of catching the lilacs in bloom. There are five authorized motorized vehicles allowed on the island. They are police cars, fire trucks, ambulances, an assortment of maintenance vehicles for the electric company, and snowmobiles, which is the main mode of transportation for the approximately 450 to 500 permanent residents. One of the best and easiest ways to get around is by bicycle. Most people who visit the island think that Main Street and downtown is it. There is more to the island than the eighteen or so fudge shops and tourist stores. It is part of the experience, but not the whole experience.

The bride’s parents, Maggie and Nick, are determined to celebrate, even as they hide a devastating secret: they are on the brink of divorce. After living apart for the last six months, the last thing they need is to be trapped together in an irresistibly romantic winter wonderland. Rosie’s older sister, Katie, is also dreading the wedding. Worried that impulsive, sweet-hearted Rosie is making a mistake, Katie is determined to save her sister from herself! If only the irritatingly good-looking best man, Jordan, would stop interfering with her plans . . . Bride-to-be Rosie loves her fiancé but is having serious second thoughts. As the big day gets closer, and emotions run even higher, this is one White family Christmas none of them will ever forget!

The History of Ophelia, the last of her seven novels, is an often comic epistolary fiction, narrated by the heroine to an unnamed female correspondent in the form of a single protracted letter. This Broadview edition includes a critical introduction and valuable appendices that contain contemporary reviews of the novel, Richard Corbould's illustrations to the Novelist’s Magazine edition, and excerpts from Sarah Fielding’s Remarks on Clarissa.

You will learn more about each member of these families, as their personalities emerge, throughout their various experiences, as the story unfolds.

Book excerpt: This innovative encyclopedia explores the life and times of America's forty-five presidents—from the first administration to that of Donald Trump. Forty-five men have served as President of the United States since George Washington swore the oath of office in 1789 in New York City. Some have proved exceptional leaders, and others have not. Some have faced serious crises, both foreign and domestic. Franklin Roosevelt was elected to four terms, leading the country through a major economic depression and a world war, while one held the office for only a single month. Each, however, played a key role in the evolution of United States history. Each of their histories therefore remains a critical civics lesson to consider. This four-volume encyclopedia provides an expansive analysis of the life and times of each United States president in chronological order from George Washington to Donald Trump. Each chapter includes a timeline, a biographical sketch, a historical overview, and an analytical essay concerning the president and his presidency. Each also includes a substantial selection of related primary documents presenting important presidential speeches and correspondence. A suggested reading list for further study of each president rounds out each entry.
