Download or read book Michael Clark written by Florence Ostende and published by National Geographic Books. This book was released on 2020-11-10 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Explore the groundbreaking performances and creative collaborations of iconic Scottish dancer and choreographer Michael Clark. Hailed as "British dance's true iconoclast," Michael Clark is a defining cultural figure in the contemporary dance world. Since emerging in the early 1980s as a prodigy at London's Royal Ballet School, Clark has remained at the forefront of innovation in dance, working in close collaboration with a broad range of pioneering artists such as Sarah Lucas, Leigh Bowery, Charles Atlas, Cerith Wyn Evans, Peter Doig, Elizabeth Peyton, Wolfgang Tillmans and musicians such as Mark E. Smith, Wire, Scritti Politti, and Relaxed Muscle. As a young choreographer, Clark brought together his classical ballet training with London's club culture, fashion, and punk rock to establish himself as one of the most innovative artists working in modern dance. His work--variously referencing punk, rock, and pop--is marked by a mixture of technical rigor and experimentation in a way that disrupts and reimagines our understanding of dance. This book features a series of enlightening essays and vivid illustrations of Clark's best-known performances, alongside archival material. Loosely tracing the chronological evolution of his career, a variety of cultural figures--ranging from Jarvis Cocker to Charles Atlas--write about the countercultural undercurrents with which Clark's work connects.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This treatise will reveal subtle secrets regarding subtle-elements, which pertain to breathing system (Praanaayaama), human speech (Mantras) and the external environment (Vaastu-Science). The subtle-elements comprise subtle phenomena and the related spiritual, cosmic, semi-cosmic and semi-gross objects, processes and systems. Therefore, this spiritual knowledge will ensure healthy ecology; high spiritual elevation and high quality of life on the earth (i.e. sound health, prosperity and happiness). It may also commence a spiritual movement globally, which will effectively prevent global warming. The Indian cosmic philosophy, which pertains to internal and external environments, is termed as Darshana-Shaastra. This term reveals a secret regarding the Rishis of the Vedic era that they used to envision subtle phenomena through their cosmic powers. Subsequently, they developed applicable rules regarding Praanaayaama, Sanskrit grammar, Mantras and Vaastu-Science. However, the spiritual-knowledge regarding the subtle elements was lost along with them. The author has ‘rediscovered the lost divine-knowledge’ through his cosmic powers and the clarifications from his spiritual guides. They are astral beings now, because they were renowned Rishis of the Vedic era. One of them assumed ‘human-form’ to bless him with cosmic powers. This book is based on the extrasensory perceptions of the author. Volume-II: Cosmic and sub-cosmic dances of Vibhootis, the pairs of opposites, which procreate subtle and atomic particles; fundamental principles regarding subtle elements and external cosmic energy system; cosmic image of Vaastu-Purusha and flow-patterns of subtle energies in dwellings, the basis of Vaastu-Science; illustrative layouts of dwellings, including group-housing, commercial and industrial complexes; etc.

Download or read book Merce Cunningham written by David Vaughan and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-11 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Merce Cunningham reached the age of 75 in 1994, an age at which many creative artists are content to rest on their laurels, or at least to leave behind whatever controversies they may have caused during their careers. No so Cunningham. In the first place, his 70s have been a time of intense creativity in which he has choreographed as many as four new works a year. Cunningham is a strongly committed as ever to the discovery of new ways of moving and of making movement, refusing to be hampered by the physical limitations that have come with age. Since 1991 every new work has been made at least in part with the use of the computer program Life Forms, which enables him to devise choreographic phrases that he himself would be unable to perform - and which challenge and develop the virtuosity of the young dancers in his company. The essays collected in this special issue of Choreography and Dance were written over the last few years and discuss various aspects of the work of Cunningham as seen both from the outside and the inside.
