Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This is the first book-length study of H. R. H.'s African fiction. It revised the image of Rider Haggard (1836-1925) as a mere writer of adventure stories, a brassy propagandist for British imperialism. Professor Monsman places Haggard's imaginative works both in the context of colonial fiction writing and in the framework of subsequent postcolonial debates about history and its representation."--BOOK JACKET.

Book Synopsis Mameena, and Other Plays by : Henry Rider Haggard
Download or read book Mameena, and Other Plays written by Henry Rider Haggard and published by University of Kwazulu Natal Press. This book was released on 2007 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: H. Rider Haggard, best known as the author of King Solomon's Mines, She, and Allan Quatermain, also wrote three full-length plays. The play Mameena, based on Haggard's novel Child of Storm, is set in Zululand during the 1850s and deals with the struggle for the succession to the Zulu throne. Mameena was staged in 1914 by actor-manager Oscar Asche, who employed the Zulu expert James Stuart as technical adviser on the production. Star of Egypt was adapted from Haggard's ancient Egyptian romance Morning Star, while the historical melodrama To Hell or Connaught, set against the backdrop of the Cromwellian colonization of Ireland, was written expressly for the stage. All three plays are published here for the first time, together with previously unrecorded information on how they came to be written and, in the case of Mameena, performed.

This all starts after Beatrice saves Geoffrey and 's life in a canoeing accident during a tremendous storm and (in the book and 's only true action set piece and ), and the two become interested in one another.
