Book excerpt: Available for the first time in one premium box set, the complete stories of The Carriage House series, compelling romantic suspense by New York Times bestselling author Carla Neggers. The Carriage House Fun and a little work is all Tess Haviland has in mind for a simple weekend project on a run-down nineteenth-century carriage house on Boston’s North Shore. But when Tess discovers a human skeleton in the dirt cellar, she begins to ask questions about the history of the house, the untimely death of the neighbor’s wife…and the sudden disappearance of the carriage house’s owner. Questions a desperate killer wants to silence before the truth reveals that someone got away with murder. The Cabin When her marriage hits a rough patch, Susanna Galway packs up her daughters and heads to a cabin in the Adirondacks for a break. Her husband, Texas Ranger Jack Galway, believes she still loves him, so when they’re gone longer than expected, Jack goes to get his family back. Little does Susanna know she’s also been followed by a killer obsessed with revenge who has sights set on her family. Trapped in the mountains, Jack and Susanna must find strength in each other if they hope to keep their family together and escape the cabin alive. Stonebrook Cottage When the children of her best friend show up at Kara Galway’s home, they are terrified…and hiding something. Afraid for themselves and their mother—who is the governor of Connecticut—they are certain the circumstances of the previous governor’s death are suspicious. Kara must return to Stonebrook Cottage to unravel what exactly is going on. Are the children really in danger? What secret is her friend hiding? Kara must uncover the truth if she is going to protect the people she loves. The Harbor Still struggling after her father’s murder, Zoe West realizes only one thing will repair the damage—returning home to Goose Harbor, Maine, to confront the past. FBI special agent J. B. McGrath believes a killer is still on the loose—a killer who isn’t happy to see Zoe return. Zoe isn’t sure she can trust the unpredictable FBI agent, or her growing attraction to him. But the danger mounts, and one wrong move could destroy everything she and J.B. care about. Someone got away with murder and is determined to keep it that way.

Killer in the Carriage House is the second book in the Victorian Village Mystery series from New York Times bestselling author Sheila Connolly. Coming back to her hometown was never on the agenda for hotelier Katherine Hamilton. But when she’s offered a chance to lead the charge of transforming the landscape into a Victorian village and tourist attraction, Kate can’t quite refuse. The only problem? Nobody in Asheboro has the passion, nor the funds, to get plans off the ground. . .until Kate teams up with handsome historian Joshua Wainwright, who has ambitious ideas of his own involving an old mansion and a treasure-trove of documents that could attract investors and help seal the deal. Then, just as Kate and Josh seem ready to pull the trigger, a dead body turns up in the town library. Do these mysterious papers spell danger instead of dollars? That’s what Kate intends to find out before all bets are off...and someone else ends up six feet under.

Book excerpt: Musaicum Books presents this meticulously edited and formatted Selma Lagerlöf collection. Selma Lagerlöf was a Swedish author and teacher. She was the first female writer to win the Nobel Prize in Literature. Through her studies in Stockholm, Lagerlöf reacted against the realism of contemporary Swedish-language writers such as August Strindberg. She began her first novel, Gösta Berling's Saga, while working as a teacher in Landskrona in 1887. A visit in 1900 to the American Colony in Jerusalem became the inspiration for Lagerlöf's book by that name. The royal family and the Swedish Academy gave her substantial financial support to continue her passion. Jerusalem was also acclaimed by critics, who began comparing her to Homer and Shakespeare, so that she became a popular figure both in Sweden and abroad. By 1895, she gave up her teaching to devote herself to her writing. In 1902, Lagerlöf was asked by the National Teacher's Association to write a geography book for children. She wrote The Wonderful Adventures of Nils, a novel about a boy from the southernmost part of Sweden, who had been shrunk to the size of a thumb and who travelled on the back of a goose across the country. Lagerlöf mixed historical and geographical facts about the provinces of Sweden with the tale of the boy's adventures until he managed to return home and was restored to his normal size. The novel is one of Lagerlöf's most well-known books, and it has been translated into more than 30 languages.
