Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Coming Dawn: And Other Poems N preparing this selection of poems by my wife for publication, I have thought it best to arrange them for the most part in order of date, even though this method is open to the objection that it entails placing her slighter and less matured work in the forefront, while her best productions do not appear until towards the middle and end of the book. My reason for adopting the chronological order was that there seemed to me to be three stages of develop ment in the growth of the writer's poetical power. I have therefore divided the collection into three parts, representing approximately these three periods in her life. The first part consists of a very small selection from a large number of early poems - mostly of a devotional nature - composed from the time when she was quite a young girl up to a year or two after her marriage in the year 1878. Download or read book My Art Is Killing Me and Other Poems written by Amber Dawn and published by arsenal pulp press. This book was released on 2020-05-05 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In her novels, poetry, and prose, Amber Dawn has written eloquently on queer femme sexuality, individual and systemic trauma, and sex work justice, themes drawn from her own lived experience and revealed most notably in her award-winning memoir How Poetry Saved My Life. In this, her second poetry collection, Amber Dawn takes stock of the costs of coming out on the page in a heartrendingly honest and intimate investigation of the toll that artmaking takes on artists. These long poems offer difficult truths within their intricate narratives that are alternately incendiary, tender, and rapturous. In a cultural era when intersectional and marginalized writers are topping bestseller lists, Amber Dawn invites her readers to take an unflinching look at we expect from writers, and from each other. Book excerpt: Poetry. "One of the most difficult things in poetry is to control the 'I,' to let it stay innocent, to let it act and be acted upon freshly in the poem. Dawn Potter manages this difficult trick with ease. In her poems, no matter where she is, the consciousness is always fresh, the perceptions always immediate and the human connections always moving, moving us, as we are by the moments of life coming into focus, newly seen and absolutely clear"--Howard Levy.

The project as a whole is meant as an imitation of so deep it becomes a participation in Robert Irwin's untitled (dawn to dusk) (2016), a permanent installation at the Chinati Foundation in Marfa, TX"--
