Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some folks are surprised to find humor in the Bible; they don't think it has any. Others are embarrassed; they worry about being sacrilegious. Some laugh and don't tell anyone; others laugh out loud and share it with those around. However people respond, the Bible does, in fact, use humor. This book examines why it's there, why it matters, what it looks like, how to look for it, and what to do with it when you find it. The author's goal is to help people become better Bible readers, growing in both skill and insight. So the book doesn't just display a collection of museum pieces, showing the treasures of other explorers. Instead, it offers readers tools and field guides to become explorers discovering on their own. It's a fun how-to manual, dealing with what is routinely overlooked in teaching about biblical interpretation. Individuals will enjoy reading it, but it's also a rich resource for reading groups, Bible study groups, and classes.

Book excerpt: Walking is one of the simplest things we do as humans. It’s how most of us experience life. In The Way Under Our Feet, Graham Usher conveys how exhilarating it is to walk into the depths of our humanity. We become more ready to recognize the needs as well as the joys of others; we sift our thoughts; we seek to heal our battered world, even as we glory in the beauty of nature; we find ourselves companying with our three mile an hour God. ‘This is a lovely book, full of light, grace and meaning. Usher celebrates his passion for walking by exploring religious texts and stories, but this by no means confines his thoughts. We are drawn by secular texts, too: Macfarlane sits alongside Kierkegaard; Thoreau and Walden alongside T. S. Eliot. Through them all, we learn why walking is so unspeakably good for heart, soul and body.’ DAME FIONA REYNOLDS, MASTER OF EMMANUEL COLLEGE, CAMBRIDGE, AUTHOR OF THE FIGHT FOR BEAUTY ‘Wonderful. Offers highly original and striking observations combined with apposite, moving and often humorous personal anecdotes. A classic, catching a genuine and humble holiness.’ BISHOP DAVID WILBOURNE

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Heaven! A Would-Be Explorer's Guide' Many if not most people on earth don't think their life will be judged when an accident, illness or last breath means the end of life has arrived. Indeed, nearly all people imagine that what they remember before they were conceived (nothing) is the state to which they will return; again without intervening judgement. According to the author, Antony Forster, neither is true. He asks, "How could anyone go through life praising God for introducing Jesus Christ in human form on earth and to be the propitiation for our sins, only to disappear into infinite oblivion, without positive judgement?" And, "How could someone who mercilessly treads down upon colleagues in order to rise up in business and make millions expect to go anywhere but hell?" Antony's naive attempt at saving one out of one hundred strays is certainly thought provoking. It's a polemic that is reflective, touching, biblical, anecdotal and, occasionally, amusing; at the same time as providing an opportunity for open-minded people to change their lives at no cost, it offers people the chance of an after life in paradise, rather than an eternally punishing time where there is constant weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a new and simplified approach to explore the mind with the imagination. The book is Volume 1 of a planned series with the title ‘Multi Genius Technology for Consciousness’. The main thesis is that by use of the imagination any and all limiting mental conditions can be resolved and consciousness itself can be infinitely expanded. The book opens with a sketch of the underlying philosophical principles, defines a multiple viewpoint system and concepts such as absolute consciousness, truth, the true self, causation and reality. The general science and theory is given in the second part of this book answering questions and covering subjects like the following: - Is there a science of consciousness or mind? - What is known about the subject? - What can we be sure of? - What is the structure of consciousness and minds? - What do we know about thought, the self, the unconscious? A view is presented of an ideal state of man as well as a theory of personal harmony and the cause of distress. Different methods are described in detail, but it is also made clear that some training will be needed for most to practice the type of self-exploration advised in the book. Meditation is stripped to the bare bone essentials of pure perception, which the author calls Basic Meditation. Stressed is the importance and quality of communication in processing. The main technique is called Universal Imagination Processing and uses principles going back to Freud and Jung’s active imagination. The term ‘Quantitative Easing’, known otherwise from central bank monetary policy, is given an entirely new meaning in the context of reprocessing unfortunate past experiences. Self-exploration is given a programmed sequence of steps and techniques which are called Consciousness Exploration Routes which culminate in an approach to unity consciousness. The final part of the book shows how a heightened consciousness would translate over into life and introduces concepts of integral beingness and integral thinking.
