Book excerpt: Paul the apostle warned the Corinthians believers: For if one comes and preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or you received a different gospel which you have not accepted, you bear this beautifully (2Co 11:4 NASB).Of course, he is not praising them for bearing the message of the "super apostles" (v.5) beautifully. He is rebuking them. Just as back then, even so now, it is imperative that we know and receive only the gospel which the apostles preached; and in this case Paul was referring to the gospel of God (Ro 1:1ff.) which Paul received by revelation of Jesus Christ. (Gal. 1:12). Having been inspired, for over two decades, by the truth of the apostolic confession -- 'Jesus Christ is Lord' -- including the implications of this confession for true experiential unity in the church of God -- I was moved to write this small book, in which Part One covers the truth of the apostolic confession and how it is sufficient for accepting one another in Christ Jesus. And then, Part Two sets forth apostolic doctrine which wholly correlates to the apostolic confession - the gospel. Part Three deals with what is perhaps the greatest enemy of church unity: Justification in Christ alone through faith in him alone. I would hope that all churches, especially those who are intentional in seeking to allow all the members of Christ's body to participate -- in love (1Co, chapters 12-14) in the worship of God for the edification of all, would be eager to receive the truth of the apostolic confession, and its corresponding apostolic doctrine (Romans 6:17; 16:17).
