Book Synopsis The Centrifugal Soul by : Mat Collishaw
Download or read book The Centrifugal Soul written by Mat Collishaw and published by . This book was released on 2017-05 with total page 95 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 'The Centrifugal Soul', Mat Collishaw's forthcoming exhibition at Blain/Southern, the artist presents new sculpture, installation and paintings. Drawing on various forms of illusion, the exhibition explores ideas of superficial truth and the erosive effect of our primal urges for visual supremacy. Collishaw worked with evolutionary psychologist Geoffrey Miller - whose theory is that the origins of art stem from natural instincts of courtship and reproduction - to produce the title work and centrepiece of the exhibition. 'The Centrifugal Soul' is a sculpture in the form of a zoetrope, a pre-film animation device that produces the illusion of motion through rapid rotation and stroboscopic light. Throughout his work, Collishaw has examined the way in which we consume imagery and how our biology has conditioned us to respond. The exhibition reflects the consistent themes addressed in the artist's practice and the diversity of his chosen mediums. Moreover, it questions how much choice we have in accepting what seems to be a natural preoccupation with self-image.
Book Synopsis Wisdom of the Eternal Self by : Sayyed Aamir Raza
Download or read book Wisdom of the Eternal Self written by Sayyed Aamir Raza and published by Wasila Society. This book was released on 2020-10-10 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses the reality of human being by pointing out some of the very fundamental issues that remain hidden from the eyes of the modern and post-modern western thought. By elaborating Mulla Sadra’s concept of Soul’s origination from the body and its survival through the Spirit, this book explains how the human soul develops stage by stage in a gradual manner from a vegetative body in the womb. By using Mulla Sadra’s principles of causality, this book shows how God and his Angels create man and other species on the Earth without denying Darwin’s evolutionary theory. In this reference, the role of metaphysical worlds in actualizing human knowledge is also discussed. This book also shows how the human life is a journey back towards its origin i.e. towards God and how this journey would continue even after death. In this reference, this book also explains the principles on the basis of which human soul would continue its life in the post-humus world. This book also clarifies the benefits of focusing onto the self and how this focus may lead to the realization of the Eternal Self of God. In this way, it shows how it is not impossible to experience the post-humus conditions even before death. It also specifies what kind of lifestyle may possibly ensure the occurrence of such mystic experiences.
Book Synopsis The Idea of the Soul by : William Ellis
Download or read book The Idea of the Soul written by William Ellis and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-10-31 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First Published in 1940, this book which is written not so much for the philosopher as for the ordinary educated man, is an account of the idea of the soul. It attempts to answer two questions-a) what is the idea of the soul; and b) why has it become ‘unwelcome’? The first question is answered by tracing the actual historical development of the idea- from early myths of the soul up to Renaissance philosophy. The second question is dealt with by considering the idea of the soul as it is affected by modern scientific ideas, particularly biological ideas. The book discusses themes like the physical psyche; the natural philosophers; Socrates; the Platonic immaterial real; rebirth of philosophy and birth of Christianity; Neo- Pythagorean method of biology; Behaviourism and nature and the organism. This will be an interesting historical reference work for students of philosophy.
Book Synopsis The Perfect Matrimony by : Samael Aun Weor
Download or read book The Perfect Matrimony written by Samael Aun Weor and published by Glorian Publishing. This book was released on 2012-05 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Love is the highest religion...” - Samael Aun Weor If you only want one book about real spiritual practice, The Perfect Matrimony has everything you need. Prepare yourself for a spiritual revolution. In fact, this book is so powerful that because of it, in 1950 the Catholic Church had Samael Aun Weor jailed. They accused him of “offending the public and healing the ill.” The Perfect Matrimony is a complete introduction to the profound and beautiful mystical knowledge from which all the world’s great religions have blossomed. There is a sacred teaching, the source of the secret teachings of Judaism, Christianity, Buddhism, Taoism, Hinduism, Alchemy, Tantra, Kabbalah, and the mysteries of the Mayans, Aztecs, Egyptians, Tibetans, Eleusinians, Essenes, and hundreds more. All of them have a sexual secret. All of them came from the same root knowledge. The Perfect Matrimony explains how to solve the problem that originated with Adam and Eve: an event clearly rooted in sex. Jesus also taught how to solve this problem (his first miracle was at a wedding, after all), but the church edited his teachings. When Samael Aun Weor publicly revealed the true teachings, the outraged church had him imprisoned in an effort to repress what he revealed. Everything that lives was created through sex. Just the same, the soul is created through sex, but not the sex of the common person. To create divinity, one must understand divine sexuality. Such knowledge has always been preserved in secret, held safely for those who demonstrated their ability to use it properly. Now, for the first time in history, that knowledge has been revealed openly: this book, originally published in 1950, marked its first public appearance. "Love is the highest religion...” - Samael Aun Weor, The Perfect Matrimony (1950) With the explanations in this book, you will understand not only many seemingly vague and incomprehensible scriptures, but also how all genuine spiritual practices work. After reading this book, religion and sex make sense. Moreover, you will see that religion is not found in organizations, buildings, or books, it is found in the heart that is enflamed with divine love.

Book Synopsis History of the Concept of Mind by : Paul S. Macdonald
Download or read book History of the Concept of Mind written by Paul S. Macdonald and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-07-23 with total page 505 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exploring the 'roads less travelled', MacDonald continues his monumental essay in the history of ideas. The history of heterodox ideas about the concept of mind takes the reader from the earliest records about human nature in Ancient Egypt, the Ancient Near East, and the Zoroastrian religion, through the secret teachings in the Hermetic and Gnostic scriptures, and into the transformation of ideas about the mind, soul and spirit in the late antique and early medieval epochs. These transitions include discussion of the influence of Central Asian shamanism, Manichean ideas about the soul in light and darkness, and Neoplatonic theurgy, 'working-on-god-within'. Sections on the medieval period are concerned with the rediscovery of magical practices and occult doctrines from Roger Bacon to Francis Bacon, the adaptation of Neoplatonic and esoteric ideas in the medieval Christian mystics, and the survival of these ideas mixed with natural science in the works of von Helmont, Leibniz and Goethe. The book concludes with an investigation of the many forms of dualism in accounts of the human mind and soul, and the concept of dual-life which underpins our aspiration to understand how humans could have an immortal nature like the gods.
