Book excerpt: Broad coverage of digital product creation, from design to manufacture and process optimization This book addresses the need to provide up-to-date coverage of current CAD/CAM usage and implementation. It covers, in one source, the entire design-to-manufacture process, reflecting the industry trend to further integrate CAD and CAM into a single, unified process. It also updates the computer aided design theory and methods in modern manufacturing systems and examines the most advanced computer-aided tools used in digital manufacturing. Computer Aided Design and Manufacturing consists of three parts. The first part on Computer Aided Design (CAD) offers the chapters on Geometric Modelling; Knowledge Based Engineering; Platforming Technology; Reverse Engineering; and Motion Simulation. The second part on Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) covers Group Technology and Cellular Manufacturing; Computer Aided Fixture Design; Computer Aided Manufacturing; Simulation of Manufacturing Processes; and Computer Aided Design of Tools, Dies and Molds (TDM). The final part includes the chapters on Digital Manufacturing; Additive Manufacturing; and Design for Sustainability. The book is also featured for being uniquely structured to classify and align engineering disciplines and computer aided technologies from the perspective of the design needs in whole product life cycles, utilizing a comprehensive Solidworks package (add-ins, toolbox, and library) to showcase the most critical functionalities of modern computer aided tools, and presenting real-world design projects and case studies so that readers can gain CAD and CAM problem-solving skills upon the CAD/CAM theory. Computer Aided Design and Manufacturing is an ideal textbook for undergraduate and graduate students in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, and industrial engineering. It can also be used as a technical reference for researchers and engineers in mechanical and manufacturing engineering or computer-aided technologies.

Book Synopsis CAD/CAM in Practice by : A.J. Medland
Download or read book CAD/CAM in Practice written by A.J. Medland and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Little more than a decade ago computer-aided design and manufacture (CAD/CAM) was a very esoteric field indeed, not one that was of much practical concern to a manager or industrialist unless his business was on the scale of, say, a major automobile manufacturer or in a field of high technology such as aerospace. Like so much else, this situation was revo lutionized by the invention of the silicon chip, the arrival of the micro processor and the dramatic fall in the cost of computer hardware. Today, CAD/CAM has spread down the market, and down the price scale, to the point at which it is both a feasible and an affordable technology for a wide range of small-and medium-sized companies in areas as various as architec ture and general engineering, plastic moulding and consumer electronics. But the explosion - there is no other word for it - in the variety and capabilities of CAD/CAM systems, and their spectacular climb to the top of the hi-tech hit parade, has placed the potential purchaser and user of the new technology in a difficult position. On the one hand he is assured, not least by the manufacturers of CAD/CAM equipment, that a failure to invest in it will leave his company stranded in the industrial Stone Age.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computer-aided design (CAD) involves creating computer models defined by geometrical parameters. These models typically appear on a computer monitor as a three-dimensional representation of a part or a system of parts, which can be readily altered by changing relevant parameters. CAD systems enable designers to view objects under a wide variety of representations and to test these objects by simulating real-world conditions. Computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) uses geometrical design data to control automated machinery. CAM systems are associated with computer numerical control (CNC) or direct numerical control (DNC) systems. These systems differ from older forms of numerical control (NC) in that geometrical data are encoded mechanically. Since both CAD and CAM use computer-based methods for encoding geometrical data, it is possible for the processes of design and manufacture to be highly integrated. Computer-aided design and manufacturing systems are commonly referred to as CAD/CAM.

Book Synopsis The CNC Handbook by : Hans Bernhard Kief
Download or read book The CNC Handbook written by Hans Bernhard Kief and published by Industrial Press. This book was released on 2021-11-15 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introducing computers into production engineering has drastically reduced the "artisan skill" content traditionally required in manufacturing processes and replaced it with high-precision, computer-controlled machinery. While this reduces human error and variability in output, it does not eliminate the knowledge required of the professional engineering or shop floor worker. On the contrary, the reverse is true. Managers, engineers, and workers still need to understand the fundamentals while they need to acquire other skills. These highly-regarded authors combine more than 150 years of industrial and academic experience and expertise to provide readers with the fundamentals of the subject, from digital manufacturing with CNC machine tools and FMS up to Industry 4.0, emphasizing the increased importance of automated manufacturing based on computerized systems (CAD, CAM, CAQ, etc.). Features This groundbreaking work introduces readers to CNC fundamentals, followed by a number of chapters which explain how different components are applied in practice. This logical approach is extended to the study of CNC and drives, tooling, flexible manufacturing systems (FMS), and finally to NC-programming, DNC, digital manufacturing, Industry 4.0 and computer integrated manufacturing (CIM). Additional chapters cover industrial robots, additive manufacturing, energy-efficient manufacturing, simulation systems, state of the art of machine integrated measuring systems, and using touch probes and laser beams. Explains the functions and connections of all integrated components.
