Shyu and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study has sought to answer the following research question: What are the factors related to children's ministry in the Chinese churches of the greater Los Angeles area that produce retention? This research is intentionally and carefully designed to analyze the influential factors of children's ministry in the early lives of young adults of Chinese churches in the greater Los Angeles area. A further goal of this project is to recognize the reasons why young adults of Chinese churches have been retained and now actively serve in their own local churches. The literature review summarized what had been written in the field of Christian education including children's ministry, youth and young adult ministry for Chinese believers in their services for the Lord. The researcher dealt with literature related to the impact and importance of children's ministry as implemented in the Chinese churches in the greater Los Angeles area; specifically in relationship to its philosophy, pedagogy and theology. This project contains a descriptive survey designed to gather information as to the reasons why Chinese young adults choose to remain in the Chinese churches within the greater Los Angeles area. A questionnaire was administered through emails to Chinese young adults who are currently attending ten Chinese local churches. The evaluation of this project took place through collecting and analyzing the data of the descriptive survey. Through appropriate procedures of evaluation the research attempted to comprehend the overall impact that children's ministry had on these participants, in order to discover which factors motivated Chinese young adults to stay in their local churches. The primary goal of the project was to figure out the significant factors for retaining young adults in their own local churches. It was expected that this research would help Chinese local churches in establishing effective children's ministries and make a contribution to Chinese Christians and child rearing at home. The researcher seeks to serve parents, church leaders, and children's ministry team members by comprehending how to lead children to Christ, how to nurture the faith of children, how to make children disciples for Christ and how to equip them in the service of the Lord. It has been significant information for Chinese local churches and parents to obtain, that this study determined whether children's ministry changed the behavior and attitudes of these young adult Chinese Christians.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Celebrating the contributions of the ethnic seminary in America While the narrative of decline haunts churches and seminaries in the United States, there is great hope to be found in the explosive growth of Christian populations in Latin America, Africa, and Asia. In light of this, much can be learned from points of intersection between the minority and majority worlds, such as Logos Evangelical Seminary, an ATS-accredited Chinese-language seminary in California—the first in the US. Chloe Sun makes the case here for why an ethnic seminary like Logos has much to teach us about the evolving possibilities for theological education in a society of cultural exchange, with many populations living in diaspora. Sun, a professor of Old Testament at Logos, has herself been formed by an array of cultural influences. She was raised by Chinese parents who were born in Vietnam, she grew up hearing multiple languages, and she has lived in China, Hong Kong, and the United States. With this unique background, she recognizes and extols the richness of pluralism, recognizing in it the work of God, akin to the diversity instantiated at the biblical Pentecost event. The title of this book comes from Logos’s motto: “Attempt great things for God; rescue millions of souls.” In this spirit, Sun’s vision is one of both humility and ambition, which begins by honoring the particularity of a person or group of people, and then moves outward to the universal, all-inclusive movement of the Holy Spirit.

Book excerpt: From the Founding Fathers through the present, Christianity has exercised powerful influence in the United States—from its role in shaping politics and social institutions to its hand in inspiring art and culture. The Encyclopedia of Christianity in the United States outlines the myriad roles Christianity has played and continues to play. This masterful five-volume reference work includes biographies of major figures in the Christian church in the United States, influential religious documents and Supreme Court decisions, and information on theology and theologians, denominations, faith-based organizations, immigration, art—from decorative arts and film to music and literature—evangelism and crusades, the significant role of women, racial issues, civil religion, and more. The first volume opens with introductory essays that provide snapshots of Christianity in the U.S. from pre-colonial times to the present, as well as a statistical profile and a timeline of key dates and events. Entries are organized from A to Z. The final volume closes with essays exploring impressions of Christianity in the United States from other faiths and other parts of the world, as well as a select yet comprehensive bibliography. Appendices help readers locate entries by thematic section and author, and a comprehensive index further aids navigation.

Download or read book Religions in Asian America written by Pyong Gap Min and published by AltaMira Press. This book was released on 2001-12-18 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The flux of Asian immigration over the last 35 years has deeply altered the United States' religious landscape. But neither social scientists nor religious scholars have fully appreciated the impact of these growing communities. And Asian immigrant religious communities are significant to the study of American religion not only because there are more than ten million Asian Americans. Asian American religions differ substantially from models drawn from European religions, pushing for new wider understandings. Religions in Asian America provides a comprehensive overview of the religious practices of Chinese, Filipino, Indian, Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, Cambodian, and Laotian Americans. How these new communities work through issues of gender, race, transnationalism, income disparities and social service, and the passing along an ethnic identity to the next generation make up the common themes that reach across essays about the varying communities. The first sociological overview of Asian American religions, Religions in Asian America is necessary reading for those interested in Asians, ethnicity, immigration or religion in the United States.
