Determined to get out of her abusive marriage, she attended college at night. Despite illness, abuse, motherhood, and other challenges she received her BA after twelve years teaching Elyria City Schools during ten of those years. Her second marriage and mother’s death inspired her to devote her life to service. She became an advocate for teachers, children, education, and the community. Even with twenty-three surgeries, years of pain and illnesses she has for yourself and regardless continued her Christian walk and her service to mankind. She believes you must goal of the circumstances, adversities, or obstacles, with God’s help, strive to achieve those goals. This is a moving story of trials, tragedies, triumphs, and accomplishments despite adversities. It shows how she has persevered through it all with God’s help. After three near death experiences and her baptism in Jesus Name, she knew that she had to tell her story to inspire others. She needed to connect with others and let the light within her prove that God is real. Through Jesus we have the victory. She is a walking miracle because God is in control. She has a Masters from CSU and is a PRP with the NAP. She has served as an officer in the NAACP, NANBPWC, Doris L. Allen Minority Caucus of OEA, NEOTA, Elyria NBPW, North Central District NANBPW, EEA, Nord Mental Health Board, Youth Services, Lorain County 317 Board and many other boards and commissions. She has done motivational speaking and conducted workshops around the county and in Jamaica traveled extensively and received more than thirty awards. She currently facilitates leadership classes around the country and assists her husband in his ministry.

Book excerpt: NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • ECPA BESTSELLER • “When it comes to the intersection of race, privilege, justice, and the church, Tasha is without question my best teacher. Be the Bridge is THE tool I wish to put in every set of hands.”—Jen Hatmaker WINNER OF THE CHRISTIAN BOOK AWARD® • Winner of the Christianity Today Book Award • A leading advocate for racial reconciliation calls Christians to move toward deeper understanding in the midst of a divisive culture. In an era where we seem to be increasingly divided along racial lines, many are hesitant to step into the gap, fearful of saying or doing the wrong thing. At times the silence, particularly within the church, seems deafening. But change begins with an honest conversation among a group of Christians willing to give a voice to unspoken hurts, hidden fears, and mounting tensions. These ongoing dialogues have formed the foundation of a global movement called Be the Bridge—a nonprofit organization whose goal is to equip the church to have a distinctive and transformative response to racism and racial division. In this perspective-shifting book, founder Latasha Morrison shows how you can participate in this incredible work and replicate it in your own community. With conviction and grace, she examines the historical complexities of racism. She expertly applies biblical principles, such as lamentation, confession, and forgiveness, to lay the framework for restoration. Along with prayers, discussion questions, and other resources to enhance group engagement, Be the Bridge presents a compelling vision of what it means for every follower of Jesus to become a bridge builder—committed to pursuing justice and racial unity in light of the gospel.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the true story of the legendary Vietnam War hero John Ripley, who braved intense enemy fire to destroy a strategic bridge and stall a major North Vietnamese invasion into the South in April 1972. Told by a fellow Marine, the account lays bare Ripley's innermost thoughts as he rigged 500 pounds of explosives by hand-walking the beams beneath the bridge, crimped detonators with his teeth, and raced the burning fuses back to shore, thus saving his comrades from certain death. First published in 1989, the book has broad appeal as a riveting tale of adventure. But John Miller has taken this daring act of heroism beyond the specifics of time and place to provide new insights into the nature of war and warriors, characteristics that have remained unchanged for centuries and will remain valid for generations to come. It has been on the Marine Corps Commandant's recommended reading list since 1990. Newly illustrated by Col. Charles Waterhouse, USMCR (Ret.).

In alternating chapters of verse and prose, new girl Lauren and football hero Colby come together, fall apart, and build something stronger than either of them thought possible—something to truly believe in. “Writing in alternating viewpoints, with Lauren’s chapters unfolding in free verse and Colby’s in prose, Schroeder (Falling for You) offers a thoughtful, straightforward, and fairly chaste romance between two kind, generous teens—one burdened by her past, one burdened by his future.” —Publishers Weekly “The alternating chapters of Lauren’s poetry and Colby’s conversational prose are well written and help reveal the characters refreshingly unique perspectives, as well as their growth in positive ways . . . This light, fast-paced story will delight romance fans looking for a fun, hopeful read.” —School Library Journal “Familiar characters and a quiet plot are elevated by poetry that is as beautiful as it is varied. Lovely in its details.” —Kirkus Reviews

Book excerpt: A prize-winning memoir, lovingly evoking New Zealand and the coming of age of a much-loved poet. Kevin Ireland leads the reader out the back, through the mangroves, under the bridge and over the moon in this delightful memoir. We meet the characters - for characters they are - who preceded him, give birth to him, laugh with him, fight over him, love and desert him. We explore with him the landscape of his childhood in Takapuna and Cambridge, we are his intrepid companions on fishing expeditions, we share his outrage at the indignities of the education system, and we linger with him over the books that finally become his life. Winner of the history and biography section of the Montana New Zealand Book Awards.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an intoxicating tale of love and wonder, mothers and daughters, spiritual values and the grim legacy of slavery on the French Antillean island of Guadeloupe. Here long-suffering Telumee tells her life story and tells us about the proud line of Lougandor women she continues to draw strength from. Time flows unevenly during the long hot blue days as the madness of the island swirls around the villages, and Telumee, raised in the shelter of wide skirts, must learn how to navigate the adversities of a peasant community, the ecstasies of love, and domestic realities while arriving at her own precious happiness. In the words of Toussine, the wise, tender grandmother who raises her, “Behind one pain there is another. Sorrow is a wave without end. But the horse mustn’t ride you, you must ride it.” A masterpiece of Caribbean literature, The Bridge of Beyond relates the triumph of a generous and hopeful spirit, while offering a gorgeously lush, imaginative depiction of the flora, landscape, and customs of Guadeloupe. Simone Schwarz-Bart’s incantatory prose, interwoven with Creole proverbs and lore, appears here in a remarkable translation by Barbara Bray.

Book excerpt: Like a lot of people, Susan didn't believe that she had a story worth sharing, a story that would impact lives for Christ--that is until that surprising day when God called her to write her testimony. That day, with fingers pressed upon the keys of her laptop, Susan embarked on a journey that forever changed her life as well as the lives of others. Over the course of a few years, as Susan wrote, God began to orchestrate the events of her life to paint a beautiful picture depicting how His people should live in preparation for His return and demonstrating His desire that we begin living lives that testify to Him. In these pages you will find more than simply the words that describe Susan's personal journey; you will hear the Savior's voice. You will hear the message that Jesus lovingly laid on her heart, a message that speaks about how He longs for His ultimate wedding day to His Bride, the Church, and about how we should live in preparation for that day. Just as a bridge once connected Jerusalem with the Temple Mount, bringing people closer to the Temple where God resided, these stories will lead you into a deeper relationship with the Lord. They will help you to discover your own story--for God created you to testify! You are meant to be a bridge that leads others to Christ. God wants to speak through you, so let's get started finding your story!

Book excerpt: Love alone isn’t enough to overcome some obstacles. Lena Kauffman is a young Old Order Amish schoolteacher who has dealt all her life with attention raised by a noticeable birthmark on her cheek. Having learned to move past the stares and whispers, Lena channels her zest for living into her love of teaching. But tensions mount as she is challenged to work with a rebellious young man and deal with several crises at the schoolhouse that threaten her other students. Her lack of submission and use of ideas that don’t line up with the Old Ways strengthen the school board’s case as they begin to believe that Lena is behind all the trouble. One member of the school board, Grey Graber, feels trapped by his own stifling circumstances. His wife, Elsie, has shut him out of her life, and he doesn’t know how long he can continue to live as if nothing is wrong. As the two finally come to a place of working toward a better marriage, tragedy befalls their family. Lena and Grey have been life-long friends, but their relationship begins to crumble amidst unsettling deceptions, propelling each of them to finally face their own secrets. Can they both find a way past their losses and discover the strength to build a new bridge?
