Download or read book Dean Meeker written by Jack Leissring and published by . This book was released on 2016-10-04 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dean Meeker (1920-2002) was a leader among the progrssive printmakers who emerged after WWII. And while his fame as a print maker may be his finest attribute, his ingenuity and unmatched skills as an inventor of processes, methods, and machinery and his supportive influence upon the scores of students who studied with him at the University of Wisconsin, Madison are his significant legacy. He was a leader in non-toxic methods for the production of intaglio prints; he started the first academic course in serigraphy in the nation and his importance as an artist is reflected in the large number of awards and prizes bestowed on him. He wanted to be a painter/sculptor but his middle years were obligated by family demands which printmaking satisfied. His last years saw him return to sculpture and painting.

Book Synopsis Reclaiming and Redefining American Exhibitions of Russian Art by : Roann Barris
Download or read book Reclaiming and Redefining American Exhibitions of Russian Art written by Roann Barris and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-08-23 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the history of American exhibitions of Russian art in the twentieth century in the context of the Cold War. Because this history reflects changes in museological theory and the role of governments in facilitating or preventing intercultural cooperation, it uncovers a story that is far more complex than a chronological listing of exhibition names and art works. Roann Barris considers questions of stylistic appropriations and influences and the role of museum exhibitions in promoting international and artistic exchanges. Barris reveals that Soviet and American exchanges in the world of art were extensive and persistent despite political disagreements before, during, and after the Cold War. It also reveals that these early exhibitions communicated contradictory and historically invalid pictures of the Russian or Soviet avant-garde. The book will be of interest to scholars working in art history, museum studies, and Russian studies.
