But Skincare for Your Soul takes it one step further?it guides you to a place where skincare is also self-care. The Korean skin care journey. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a critical-constructive study of Korean women’s self-esteem from a feminist practical theological perspective. Jaeyeon Lucy Chung recognizes two different and yet related problems: the absence of scholarly work on women’s self-esteem from non-white, non-Western groups in the field of practical theology, and the lack of attention to the low self-esteem prevalent in Korean women’s sociocultural and religious context. Chung employs in-depth interview studies while drawing on theoretical resources of psychology, theology, and cultural studies to develop a relational-communal theory of self-esteem, and a systematic, communal understanding of pastoral care practice. The project offers insights into the life experience of Korean women, especially self-esteem, and it reveals some of the ways self-esteem can be fostered.

Book excerpt: How did she turn a side hustle into a game-changing business, and at the same time, achieve happiness and fulfillment in her life? For Charlotte, it all came down to one thing-jeong. One of the most important Korean cultural values, jeong is a feeling of loyalty and of strong emotional connection to people and places. It goes deeper than love and friendship and grows stronger with time. In South Korea, jeong is critical for success in every facet of daily life, from cultivating hobbies to developing careers and relationships. In The Little Book of Jeong, Charlotte shares how jeong changed her own trajectory in life, landing her a job opportunity in Seoul and giving her the fuel she and her husband Dave needed to launch a ground-breaking digital skin care platform and skin care line. A personal story that centers around the deep bond she built with Korea, Charlotte reveals how jeong can radically change our relationships with our loved ones, our work, and the world around us, and challenges us to cultivate jeong in our own lives.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The question at the heart of the book is what might an education with self-care and care-for-others look like? Juxtaposing self-understanding through the method of currere and the historical character of hakbeolism (a concept indigenous to Korea referring to a kind of social status people achieve based on a shared academic background), this book articulates how subjective reconstruction of self in conjunction with historical study can be transformative, and how this can be extended to social change. Articulating how having one’s own standard can be a way of making one’s life a work of art, the author looks at how Korean schooling exercises coercive care, disconfirmation, and the "whip of love" for the children’s own good. Emphasis is given to the internalized status of these practices in both students and teachers and to teachers’ and parents’ culpability not only in exercising but also in reproducing these practices through themselves. Going beyond describing and analysing the educational problem of academic (intellectual) achievement-oriented education based on aggressive competition, this book suggests ways to address these issues through autobiography (using the method of currere to reconstruct one’s subjectivity) and an ethic of care.
