Book excerpt: What if the medieval folklore of old was based in truth? And what if just one girl was charged with the task of destroying it? Adventure, swordfights, love, loss, faeries, battles... and magic. The Fairytale to End Them ALL. For ages 10 - 100. Christina opens the wooden chest of her dead stepmother to discover she has been saddled with the ongoing task of the ancient Ostergaard family: To rid the entire world of faeries. The only problem is, as far as she knows, faeries DO NOT exist. Meanwhile, less than a mile away in the village of Blackwood, three friends are discovering just how very much faeries do exist. And just how dangerous they really are. Christina is thrown into a violent, supernatural world of faerie killing, but it is only with the help of the three friends that she can hope to come out of the battle alive. This story is a collaboration with Dr. Melchior Williams, who discovered a treasure trove of intriguing manuscripts from medieval Blackwood hidden away in the depths of the British Museum - documents which seem to suggest the existence and destruction of the mythological creatures so ingrained in the medieval world.

Churchill's Crusade is the first complete account of a unique military operation - one which, if it had succeeded, would have changed the history of Russia, Europe and the World.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The period between the mid-1880s and the First World War was the high point of the navalist movement - but the idea of 'navalism' took many forms, and meant different problems and different solutions to various groups within British society and the British government. New Crusade examines one form of the British navalist movement: directed navalism. As opposed to the broader cultural conception of British naval power, directed navalism consisted of a cooperative, symbiotic working relationship between three elite and self-selecting groups: serving naval officers (professionals), naval correspondents and editors working for national newspapers and periodicals (press), and members of Parliament who dealt with naval issues (politicians). Directed navalism meant agitation for a specific, achievable goal. It was the bedrock upon which the more popular and ultimately more successful cultural navalism of fleet reviews and music halls was built. Though directed navalism collapsed before the First World War, it was extraordinarily successful in its time, and it was a necessary precursor for the creation of a national discourse in which cultural navalism could thrive. Its rise and fall is the story of this book.

Book Synopsis Tales of the Crusaders – Remembering the Crusades in Britain by : Elizabeth Siberry
Download or read book Tales of the Crusaders – Remembering the Crusades in Britain written by Elizabeth Siberry and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-02-01 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Engaging the Crusades is a series of volumes which offer windows into a newly emerging field of historical study: the memory and legacy of the crusades. Together these volumes examine the reasons behind the enduring resonance of the crusades and present the memory of crusading in the modern period as a productive, exciting, and much needed area of investigation. Crusading was a part of the rich tapestry of family history, with tales of crusading developed as evidence of heroic endeavour to enhance family prestige. Lists of crusaders were published to satisfy this market and heraldry was a visible means of displaying such lineage. Drawing on extensive research and previously untapped sources, this book charts continuing British interest in the crusades, focusing on the nineteenth century. The volume discusses what was available to read on the subject and how this was discussed in numerous journals. Set in the British context of growing local and regional interest in history and archaeology, the study also considers the physical artefacts associated with the crusades. Tales of the Crusaders – Remembering the Crusades in Britain is the ideal resource for students and scholars of the history of memory and crusades history in a British context.
