Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the story of the bible told like you've very likely never heard it told before. The bible is one the most highly regarded literary works of all time. A number one best-seller before there even was such a thing, the bible has long been the most purchased book in history. The problem is however, that most people haven't actually read the book, and those who have don't really understand a very fundamental fact about the bible. That fact being that the bible is in all honesty, simply a very bad work of fiction. In my version I strip away all the metaphysical mumbo-jumbo and all the supposedly miraculous nonsense, and tell the story for exactly what it is. The bible is nothing more than a collection of fictional works from the minds of deluded and possibly mentally ill men, which tells the story of the most powerful wizard ever to exist. This wizard just so happens to supposedly live in another dimension, and the bible offers the stories of how this extra-dimensional wizard used to supposedly interact with mankind.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, Casper Rigsby addresses the doctrine of Christianity known as the bible, and dives head long into the insanity within that text. The book will introduce the non-Christian to some of the most irrational and illogical ideas within the Christian doctrine and will remind the progressive or moderate Christian of just how insane the bible is. It will also present the notion that by wearing the label of Christian they are signing a metaphorical terms of service agreement that says that they agree with all the insanity presented there by proxy, and will hopefully leave the reader questioning why anyone would believe any of this nonsense. Lastly, this title will ask the reader to take off the blinders of faith, even if only for a minute, and take an objective look at the insanity within the bible.

Book excerpt: This collection of essays looks to address many of the reasons other than indoctrination that people believe in god. From Pascal's Wager, to issues of gender equality and identity, as well as the pervasive misogyny inherent in religion, these essays hit at the heart of some of the biggest problems with religion and the god hypothesis. These essays also give a good look into the atheist worldview and how atheists approach many of these issues. While atheism itself is simply a lack of belief in god, this position can also greatly affect how one thinks about everything from issues of social injustice to education. Within these essays this worldview and mindset becomes clear, and we see how a lack of belief in both god and Holy doctrine can shape one's viewpoint.

Book excerpt: Biblical tales retold as episodes in humanity's battle with the ravenous dead. Now, get five novels in a single volume: Death Has Come up into Our Windows What Our Eyes Have Witnessed Strangers in the Land No Lasting Burial I Will Hold My Death Close (and an exclusive excerpt from By a Slender Thread) DEATH HAS COME UP INTO OUR WINDOWS (Book 1) It is 587 BC. A vast army lies encamped about Yirmiyahu’s city, and a rebellious king has closed the city gates, locking in the living and the dead together. Now, the things Yirmiyahu sees and the things he must do will call into question every promise he has made, every duty he has sworn -- to his wife, his God, and his city. WHAT OUR EYES HAVE WITNESSED (Book 2) Regina endures a death-in-life as a sex slave in the Subura, the ancient world's most terrible ghetto -- until a strange man sees her suffering and gives her a coat, a new name, and a new life. The man is Polycarp, and he has the Gift of gazing into the eyes of the hungry dead and granting them rest -- a Gift that comes at a terrible cost. And ancient Rome may burn him for it. STRANGERS IN THE LAND (Book 3) Four must stand against the dead: The aging prophetess Devora. Hurriya, the slave girl. Zadok, a legend among warriors. And the widower Barak, who has sworn to defend his homeland from a migration of walking corpses greater than has ever been seen. In this retelling of a tale from Judges, the strangers in the land must stand together if they are to rid the land of its blight. NO LASTING BURIAL (Book 4) A man wanders out of the desert one day and finds a village in ruins after a night of the walking dead. The survivors have thrown the snarling corpses into the Sea of Galilee, only to starve as the ghoul-haunted sea yields no fish. Will the stranger's coming bring back the fish, or the hungry dead? I WILL HOLD MY DEATH CLOSE (Book 5) Marked for sacrifice by her own father.... A young woman must rely on only her wits and troubled memories of her mother’s faith to survive. Jepthah's daughter flees to the hills, knowing her father and his stone blade may appear at any time to claim her -- while the unburied dead of her people also hunt her in the low ravines. The centuries to come will not remember her name. But generations of young women will climb those hills to remember her. "Heartbreaking and wonderful." - Conflictium "Stant Litore has been doing fascinating phantasmagorical things with zombies in biblical times." - Jeff Vandermeer, author of Annihilation "I find myself riveted to Stant's prose, not only because I'm eager to find out the characters' fate but because his words are so beautiful. The story has stayed with me days after reading it. I highly recommend." - Denise Grover Swank, author of The Curse Keepers "The Zombie Bible is philosophy played out in bleak landscapes. It's psychology set to the harsh strains of Prokofiev. Litore's prose is lean and hungry; his characters are faceted all-round like various colored stones; his scenes pulse with blood and life, ring with metal or reek of sweat and undeath." - Marc McDermott "Litore’s vibrant writing rips the lid off of the King James version and reveals to us a world of intense human hopes, dreams and pathos. You’ve never seen anything like this before." - Richard Ellis Preston, Jr., author of Romulus Buckle and the City of the Founders "To say I loved this book would be an understatement. I could not put it down." - The Seattle Post-Intelligencer

Book excerpt: While books on pedagogy in a theoretical mode have proliferated in recent years, there have been few that offer practical, specific ideas for teaching particular biblical texts. To address this need, Teaching the Bible, a collection of ideas and activities written by dozens of innovative college and seminary professors, outlines effective classroom strategies—with a focus on active learning—for the new teacher and veteran professor alike. It includes everything from ways to incorporate film, literature, art, and music to classroom writing assignments and exercises for groups and individuals. The book assumes an academic approach to the Bible but represents a wide range of methodological, theological, and ideological perspectives. This volume is an indispensable resource for anyone who teaches classes on the Bible.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first decades of the twenty-first century saw a resurgence of the biblical epic film, such as Noah and Exodus: Gods and Kings, which was in turn accompanied by a growth of biblical film criticism. This companion surveys that field of study by framing it in light of significant and recent biblical films as well as the voices of key biblical film critics. Non-Hollywood and seemingly “non-biblical” films also come under investigation. The contributors concentrate on three points: “context”, focusing on the 'Bible in' specific film genres and cultural situations; “theory”, applying theory from both religion and film studies, with an eye to their possible intersections; and “recent and significant texts”, reflecting on which texts and themes have been most important in 'biblical film' and which are currently at the fore. Exploring cinema across the globe, and accompanied by extended introductory essays for each of the three sections, this companion is an important resource for scholars in both film and biblical reception.

For centuries, the Bible was called "the Good Book," a moral and religious text that guides us into a relationship with God and shows us the right way to live. Today, however, some people argue the Bible is outdated and harmful, with many Christians unaware of some of the odd and disturbing things the Bible says. Whether you are a Christian, a doubter, or someone exploring the Bible for the first time, bestselling author Dan Kimball guides you step-by-step in how to make sense of these difficult and disturbing Bible passages. Filled with stories, visual illustrations, and memes reflecting popular cultural objections, How (Not) to Read the Bible is a lifeline for individuals who are confused or discouraged with questions about the Bible. Book excerpt: Dr. Michael S. Heiser presents fifteen years of research on what the Bible really says about the unseen world of the supernatural, unfiltered by tradition or by theological presuppositions. Who were the sons of God? Who were the Nephilim? Where do angels fit into the supernatural hierarchy? What relation does Jesus bear to the rest of the supernatural world? Heiser tackles these questions and many more as he shines a light on the ancient context of Scripture. After reading this book, you may never read your Bible the same way again. In Supernatural, Heiser takes the core message from his recent best-seller, The Unseen Realm, and presents it for the person in the pew. He offers the same approach to reading and understanding Scripture, but without all the extra footnotes and supporting information needed for the scholarly treatment. “We can’t believe what we don’t understand. In Supernatural, Michael Heiser helps us to do both. It may open your eyes to the scripture in a new way.” —John Ortberg, author of If You Want to Walk on Water, You’ve Got to Get Out of the Boat
