A new and better kind of tax book! What makes this book different? Two Things: It is organized by life event instead of tax topics and it is written in English.88 Chapters and 3 appendixes the majority of which are either absolutely necessary tax knowledge, timely updated information for a specific year or tax law, or a specific life event such as having kids or retiring for which it would be good to know how it affects your taxes, preferably BEFORE you file or make a mistake. Each chapter is organized in the best way possible to make it easy to understand, and, most importantly, easy to apply to your personal situation. Most chapters have a section on what you NEED to know, a section with nitty-gritty details, a section of the author's personal best advice and often some specifics for the military. About the authors: Michael A. York, EA (Michael A. York & Associates, Salt Lake City, UT) literally grew up in a CPA firm - his dad didn't teach him how to fix anything, he taught Michael how to deduct it, and Michael has spent decades focusing on nothing but taxes. Andrew L. Stevens, EA, MBA (Houston Tax Advisors, Houston, TX) began working in that same tax firm in 1999, and has since gone to business school, worked in management consulting, started a business and sold it, all while remaining grounded to his roots in taxes. When Michael and Andrew sat down to compare notes, they started with the question, "What is the best thing we have found to educate clients about tax strategy?" Their answers were identical: relatable stories! No one likes code sections and very few understand tax language, but everyone can relate to (and remember!) real stories about real people. So they wrote a book full of real stories about how real people save real money on their taxes, and the best part is that you can use these strategies, too! Taxes don't need to tax you anymore!Need a tax professional? Contact The York Tax GroupTel: (801) [email protected]

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Everyone knows that the current tax system is unfair. Some of the richest people in America pay no tax, while a huge share of the tax burden falls on the rest of us. A mere glance at the tax code confirms that it is far too complex, with volumes of rules that no ordinary person could possibly comprehend. What is to be done? Some conservatives have called for a so-called flat tax. But a flat tax is not necessarily a simple tax, and "flat" means "more" for most taxpayers: a rise in middle-class taxes to finance tax cuts for the rich. Is there another choice? In clear, easy-to-understand language, Edward J. McCaffery proposes a straightforward and fair alternative. A "fair not flat" tax that is consistent and progressive would tax spending, not income and savings. And if it were collected at its lower levels through a national sales tax, most people would not have to file a return. A supplemental tax on spending for the wealthiest individuals would make the national sales tax progressive. Under McCaffery's system, a family of four would pay no tax on their first $20,000 in spending, and 15 percent on the next $60,000. Only the few families who spend more than $80,000 a year would be subject to the supplemental tax. Necessities would be taxed less than ordinary and luxury items. No one would be taxed directly on savings. The estate and gift or so-called death tax would be abolished, for the simple reason that dead people don't spend. The "fair not flat" tax would fall on heirs when and as they spend their good fortune. Perhaps best of all, most Americans would not have to fill out tax returns. Simpler, more efficient, fairer, and more reflective of America's current social values, McCaffery's "fair not flat" tax could help get us out of the tax mess that politicians and special interests have gotten us into, improving the whole country in the process. Read Fair Not Flat to find out how. “In Fair Not Flat, Mr. McCaffery lays out the case for a consumption tax. He does so in a reader-friendly way, presenting his argument with very few footnotes, equations or technical terms. The consumption of the book, so to speak, is not at all taxing. And its argument is well worth pondering.”—Bruce Bartlett, Wall Street Journal

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fully UPDATED for 2018 and the NEW TAX LAW. Mark J. Orr has been a practicing Certified Financial Planner(tm) (CFP(r)) since July 2000 for clients across the country and has also earned the RICP(r) designation (Retirement Income Certified Professional). His financial planning practice is centered on the firm beliefs that 1) people should not pay a dime more in taxes that the law requires... 2) nor should they take an ounce more risk than they need to in order to reach their financial goals. Get Me to ZERO(tm) describes seven synergistic tax strategies to help Americans legally get their future assets and cash-flow off the IRS's radar screen and pay as little as ZERO income taxes during retirement - while simultaneously slashing their investment risks. This book fully explains how implementing these proven tax strategies can offer up to 20%-40% more spendable retirement income than traditional 401Ks, TSPs, 403Bs and IRAs. Judge Learned Hand said, "Anyone may arrange his affairs so that his taxes shall be as low as possible; he is not bound to choose that pattern which best pays the treasury. There is not even a patriotic duty to increase one's taxes. Over and over again the Courts have said that there is nothing sinister in so arranging affairs as to keep taxes as low as possible. Everyone does it, rich and poor alike and all do right, for nobody owes any public duty to pay more than the law demands". That, in a nutshell is the legal basis for the Get Me to ZERO(tm) strategy - proactively and systematically arranging our financial affairs so that our future income taxes will be as low as possible. The whole aim of the Get Me to ZERO(tm) strategy is to make as much of your retirement cash-flow legally "invisible" to the IRS using the full tax code. And the more sources of "invisible" retirement cash-flow - the better. This book is not about tax loopholes! Author Tom Wheelwright, CPA says, "After all, the tax law is really a map - a treasure map. As you follow this map, your taxes go down". If we can't eliminate future income taxes in retirement, we at least want to minimize them by becoming fully informed and proactively using the tax code as it is written and intended. Using the letter and the spirit of our current and longstanding tax laws for future legal "tax avoidance"... NOT "tax evasion" is simply being tax savvy. Whose retirement are you planning for, YOURS... OR Uncle Sams? Wall Street doesn't like the TRIPLE ZERO(tm) plan at all, nor they have embraced ROTH conversions (or even ROTH contributions). Why doesn't Wall Street like ROTH conversions? Because when you convert a traditional IRA to a ROTH, income taxes get paid to the IRS and perhaps your state. That reduces the amount left that Wall Street (your broker or advisor) can make money on (fees and commissions). ROTH conversions give them a 20%-45% pay cut! Showing people how to implement a holistic and comprehensive planning approach that employs several diverse strategies to help people become more financially confident and secure today, while preparing for an extraordinary retirement is the primary goal of this book. Does your current retirement planning include future income tax planning? Do you have a tax-savvy exit strategy for your traditional retirement investments, so you can spend and enjoy more of your hard-earned savings... and pay the IRS less? A quick look at the Table of Contents and reading the first few pages ought to give you a good idea if this book should be on your reading list. It certainly should be if you would like to reduce your taxes in retirement to the lowest amount allowed by law, avoid taxation of your Social Security and enhance you're your overall financial position both today and tomorrow. Pay the IRS less. Keep more and have a better life!

The 1984 Grace Commission uncovered that the Department of Defense spent $640 for a toilet seat and $436 for a hammer. Twenty years later things weren't much better. In 2004, Congress spent a record-breaking $22.9 billion dollars of your money on 10,656 of their pork-barrel projects. The war on terror has a lot to do with the record $413 billion in deficit spending, but it's also the result of pork over the last 18 years the likes of: - $50 million for an indoor rain forest in Iowa - $102 million to study screwworms which were long ago eradicated from American soil - $273,000 to combat goth culture in Missouri - $2.2 million to renovate the North Pole (Lucky for Santa!) - $50,000 for a tattoo removal program in California - $1 million for ornamental fish research Funny in some instances and jaw-droppingly stupid and wasteful in others, The Pig Book proves one thing about Capitol Hill: pork is king!

This book was released on 2019-10-15 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: America’s runaway inequality has an engine: our unjust tax system. Even as they became fabulously wealthy, the ultra-rich have had their taxes collapse to levels last seen in the 1920s. Meanwhile, working-class Americans have been asked to pay more. The Triumph of Injustice presents a forensic investigation into this dramatic transformation, written by two economists who revolutionized the study of inequality. Eschewing anecdotes and case studies, Emmanuel Saez and Gabriel Zucman offer a comprehensive view of America’s tax system, based on new statistics covering all taxes paid at all levels of government. Their conclusion? For the first time in more than a century, billionaires now pay lower tax rates than their secretaries. Blending history and cutting-edge economic analysis, and writing in lively and jargon-free prose, Saez and Zucman dissect the deliberate choices (and sins of indecision) that have brought us to today: the gradual exemption of capital owners; the surge of a new tax avoidance industry, and the spiral of tax competition among nations. With clarity and concision, they explain how America turned away from the most progressive tax system in history to embrace policies that only serve to compound the wealth of a few. But The Triumph of Injustice is much more than a laser-sharp analysis of one of the great political and intellectual failures of our time. Saez and Zucman propose a visionary, democratic, and practical reinvention of taxes, outlining reforms that can allow tax justice to triumph in today’s globalized world and democracy to prevail over concentrated wealth. A pioneering companion website allows anyone to evaluate proposals made by the authors, and to develop their own alternative tax reform at taxjusticenow.org.

Book excerpt: The secret to good government is a question no one in Washington is asking: “What’s the right thing to do?” What’s wrong in Washington is deeper than you think. Yes, there’s gridlock, polarization, and self-dealing. But hidden underneath is something bigger and more destructive. It’s a broken governing system. From that comes wasteful government, rising debt, failing schools, expensive health care, and economic hardship. Rules have replaced leadership in America. Bureaucracy, regulation, and outmoded law tie our hands and confine policy choices. Nobody asks, “What’s the right thing to do here?” Instead, they wonder, “What does the rule book say?” There’s a fatal flaw in America’s governing system—trying to decree correctness through rigid laws will never work. Public paralysis is the inevitable result of the steady accretion of detailed rules. America is now run by dead people—by political leaders from the past who enacted mandatory programs that churn ahead regardless of waste, irrelevance, or new priorities. America needs to radically simplify its operating system and give people—officials and citizens alike—the freedom to be practical. Rules can’t accomplish our goals. Only humans can get things done. In The Rule of Nobody Philip K. Howard argues for a return to the framers’ vision of public law—setting goals and boundaries, not dictating daily choices. This incendiary book explains how America went wrong and offers a guide for how to liberate human ingenuity to meet the challenges of this century.
