Ramsay spent decades investigating the New Testament because he was initially a skeptic. However, in time he began to discover the honesty and accuracy of the authors, the truthfulness of the information, and the trustworthiness of the NT. In fact, Ramsay concluded: “Luke is a historian of the first rank: not merely are his statements of fact trustworthy, he is possessed of the true historic sense . . . This author should be placed along with the very greatest of historians.” In Ramsay's book Trustworthiness of the New Testament, he provides us with much valuable material showing that the NT is authentic and true. His book is a faith builder for us and an apologetic tool to share with skeptics and those who may have begun to doubt.

CHAPTER XXIII "YOUR POETS HAVE SAID" At every point in the early history of Christianity we find that the relation to the Roman autocracy has to be taken into account as a factor in the problem. The Church and the Empire, the Imperial and the Christian "Salvation," stood over against one another. The Empire was striving to solve the same problems that the new religion was attacking. Its spirit, on the whole, setting aside some degenerate Emperors, was good. Its aims were noble. It sought to benefit the whole population of the world, and to raise the provincials and the outer people on the fringe of the Empire to the level of the Roman civilization. It was satisfied that Roman culture was perfect, that the civilized world was the Roman world, and that the best thing for every nation was that it should be initiated into the Roman culture, and brought into the Empire as soon as it was worthy of that privilege. In Christian opinion Rome knew not that it was wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked: it thought that it was rich and had need of nothing.1 Rome flattered herself that she sat a Queen; but her sins reached even unto heaven.2 Her culture was vicious at the heart. The religion that she created to strengthen and maintain the Imperial patriotism was the worship of Satan, sitting in the temple of God, setting himself forth as God:3 it deified the 1 Rev. m. 17. Rev. xvm. 7 and 5. Rev. 11. 13; 2 Thess. 11. 4. State and the Emperor as embodying the majesty of the State. Yet it is not enough to look at the Empire as painted by its enemy. We must look at it as it presented itself to the world. The Imperial " Salvation " was a great idea: it was a restraining power,1 averting anarchy and bestowing on the nations a...

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “More than 60 years ago,” remembered Mr. Stvarnik, “I read the books From Ancient Philosophy to Modern Science of Atoms by prof. dr. Ivan Supek, and the Images from the Lives of Great Scientists by prof. dr. Milutin Milankovic, and for me these are still the most beautiful scientific texts.” From that time, as a much loving hobby, Mr. Stvarnik has studied biographies of great scientists. “I have grown up in an atheistic country,” he once said, “and therefore it was a surprise to find that there were very few atheistic or agnostic scientists; the majority of them were some kind of believers in God. Actually, a good number of the greatest scientific minds were or are Bible-believing Christians.” That realization, along with discoveries of some deliberate distortions of historical facts that made certain Bible-believing scientists look as having an atheistic bent, prompted writing a book The Portraits of the Great Bible-believing Scientists that was published in Croatian and in Serbian languages. Now he has written the same in English, but since many years elapsed from the mentioned publications, he enriched the text with new findings and added 12 new portraits into the book.

Book excerpt: Christians rely on the Bible for information on both their most basic understanding of reality and in determining right and wrong in their decision-making. But can you rely on the Bible? Evidence for the Bible is the first volume in the Consider Christianity series, written by Elgin Hushbeck, Jr. It discusses the evidence for the inspiration and reliability of the Bible and deals with objections. It is clear and forceful but also invites dialogue on this key issue of the Christian faith. Chapter titles are: How Did We Get the Bible The Bible and Modern Criticism Archeology and the Bible Science vs. Religion Science and the Bible Is the Bible Reliable The Word of God or the Speculations of Men There is a clear reader's guide at the beginning of the book to indicate what is covered in each chapter, giving readers a way to move quickly to the topics that most interest or concern them. There is also an extensive index of topics. This 3rd edition is revised and expanded and includes discoveries from the nearly twenty years since the 2nd edition was released. You'll find a discussion of advancing scientific observations and theories, including early results from the James Webb telescope. Pastors, Sunday School teachers, Christian education directors, and youth leaders will not want to miss this book.

Book excerpt: In this definitive work, popular Christian apologist Hank Hanegraaff offers a detailed defense of the Resurrection, the singularly most important event in history and the foundation upon which Christianity is built. Using the acronym F.E.A.T., the author examines the four distinctive, factual evidences of Christ's resurrection-Fatal torment, Empty tomb, Appearances, and Transformation-making the case for each in a memorable way that believers can readily use in their own defense of the faith.
