Download or read book The Basileia Code written by Douglas E. Clanton and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2017-08-04 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What did Jesus mean when he said many are called, but few are chosen? Why are there so many different denominations and divisions in the church world? Have our scholars learned everything there is to know about the Bible? Has God really hidden truth in his Word for our time? Are you ready for what will happen next in the schedule of cosmic events? Get ready for the journey of a lifetime through the hidden mysteries of the Word of God. Solomon put it so well when he wrote, Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding (Prov. 4:7). But do wisdom and understanding just drop into our laps, or do we have to take some sort of action to acquire them? This book will provide an amazing new understanding of Jesuss teachings on salvation and eternity, as well as other Bible prophecy specific to the times in which we now live. You dont have to fear what comes next. When you apply The Basileia Code to the prophecies of old, you will begin to unlock new meaning in the messages recorded in the Word of God thousands of years ago. Jesus made it clear that salvation is free and easy to receive. But if this is true, why does it seem there are so many mandates to follow in order to stay saved? Where do my works fit in? What is the meaning of this life in relation to eternity? In other words, why am I here? What really happens when this temporal existence is over? How can I prepare myself in this life for my place in the next?

Book Synopsis Obedience, Suspicion and the Gospel of Mark by : Lydia Neufeld Harder
Download or read book Obedience, Suspicion and the Gospel of Mark written by Lydia Neufeld Harder and published by Wilfrid Laurier Univ. Press. This book was released on 2006-01-01 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How do our social, political and religious commitments influence our interpretation of biblical texts? Are obedience and suspicion necessarily opposite ways to respond to the authority of the Bible? Can one criticize and be transformed at the same time? Lydia Neufeld Harder explores these questions from the vantage point of a scholar, a feminist and a member of a faith community. A hermeneutics of obedience, rising out of the Mennonite theological tradition, and a hermeneutics of suspicion, advocated by many feminist theologians, seem to represent opposite approaches to the Bible’s authority. The resulting polarization could easily have led to static definitions of authority and the subtle domination of those who differ from the majority. However, by focusing on the common theological concept of discipleship, Harder has constructed a critical dialogue, beginning a process of creative change in her own view of authority. This new view opens the way for an interpretation of the Gospel of Mark. A new appreciation of both the power and the vulnerability of the biblical text leads to a view of authority that embraces both suspicion and obedience in a dynamic interpretative process.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The biblical Jubilee has enjoyed increasing prominence in Lukan and missional literature, much of which has been based on suggested Jubilee allusions throughout Luke-Acts (especially Luke 4:16-30). This study questions the presence of such allusions, arguing that the suggested references are better understood within the broader and more explicit tradition of the Basileia of God. Every suggested Lukan textual and thematic reference to the Jubilee is examined, with particular attention given to the Nazareth episode (Luke 4:16-30), which is often cited as the most explicit Jubilee reference. The study also addresses some fundamental issues which have informed recent exegeses, including Luke's use of the term ἄφεσις, the theme of the Basileia of God throughout Luke-Acts, and the importance of Isaiah 61 (both the first-century traditions that may have influenced Luke, as well as how Luke employed the text throughout his two-part work).

Download or read book Paul and Mark written by Oda Wischmeyer and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2014-08-20 with total page 655 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The hypothesis that the Gospel of Mark was heavily influenced by Pauline theology and/or epistles was widespread in the nineteenth century, but fell out of favour for much of the twentieth century. In the last twenty years or so, however, this view has begun to attract renewed support, especially in English language scholarship. This major and important collection of essays by an international team of scholars seeks to move the discussion forward in a number of significant ways – tracing the history of the hypothesis from the nineteenth century to the modern day, searching for historical connections between these two early Christians, analysing and comparing the theology and christology of the Pauline epistles and the Gospel of Mark, and assessing their reception in later Christian texts. This major volume will be welcomed by those who are interested in the possible influence of the apostle to the Gentiles on the earliest Gospel.

Download or read book Lady Liberty written by Richard N. Rhoades and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2013-07-10 with total page 413 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Statue of Liberty holds a special place in the hearts of Americans, the people of France, and freedom lovers throughout the world. But up until now, the full story behind its origins has not been told. Author Richard N. Rhoades peels back the mystery surrounding the icon, explaining how French sculptor Frederic Auguste Bartholdi looked to a Roman goddess to serve as the model for the statue. On Oct. 28, 1886, at the unveiling ceremony, President Grover Cleveland praised Bartholdis goddess statue as greater than all that have been celebrated in ancient song. But Rhoades goes beyond the historical data and examines the statues pagan origins by analyzing Scripture. He establishes that the most revealing chroniclers of the Statue of Liberty were the Hebrew prophets who predicted the building and setting of an image of the Great Goddess of the ancient world on her own pedestal in a latter day country code-named the land of Shinar. Discover the real origins of the Statue of Liberty, its adoption by the American people as a national icon and its historical and biblical significance in Lady Liberty: The Ancient Goddess of America.

Book Synopsis Home and Away by : Dr. Stephen Burns
Download or read book Home and Away written by Dr. Stephen Burns and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2013-01-11 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Home and Away provides new vantage points in contextual theology. An initial stream looks at the significance of postcodes as a way of mapping local areas as situations for pastoral ministry and theological reflection. A second, but not ancillary, stream of essays considers the local within a range of glocal and global dynamics. The essays do not unfold a single trajectory of thought about context, and at various points they indirectly question and challenge each other. The pieces meld into an international and ecumenical conversation about contemporary Christian ministry. It includes voices from North America, Europe, and Austral/Asia. Although open ended, and constantly crisscrossing questions from one context to another, the collection is emphatic in its common conviction that attention to very local circumstance is crucial for Christian ministry, just as are wider views of a locality's position in broader flows.
Book Synopsis The Jesus Revolution by : James M. Scott
Download or read book The Jesus Revolution written by James M. Scott and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2023-02-24 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This introduction to a biblical theology of the New Testament seeks to revitalize our engagement with the Scriptures for the twenty-first century by showing not only how the assemblage of ancient writings consisting of both Old and New Testaments is intrinsically relevant, but also how we can remain faithful to Jesus Christ, the organizing principle of those writings, in the process. The book is an invitation to all people of goodwill—believers and unbelievers, liberals and conservatives—to put aside their differences in order to cooperate in the revolution that Jesus inaugurated, the creation of a new and better world in the here and now as an anticipation of the eschatological finale. In an age in which many people are overwhelmed by life and looking for ways to cope, this book offers fresh perspectives and penetrating insights that are grounded in solid biblical scholarship with the aid of contemporary philosophical concepts.
