Book excerpt: Originally published in 1969, this book is a translation of Frank Edgar's Hausa folk stories, which was made primarily in Sokoto Province at the direction of Major John Alder, who in 1910 gave Edgar some Hausa texts written in the Ajemic script for transliteration into Roman characters. Edgar prepared the the first volme of the Tatsuniyoyi for publication in 1911. The Hausa whose folklore Edgar recorded so industriously are the largest ethnic group in Northern Nigeria and number many millions and these tales of past events show how Hausa conceive the histories of their states, the characters of their rulers, and their institutions of government and law. These traditions are thus equally important as documents of folk thought and as historical sources.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the course of human existence, various cultures, traditions, and languages arose from the building of the Tower of Babel as described in the book of Genesis chapter 11. The diversity of cultures and traditions in the world today have made people serve God through the eyes of man and not the way God want to be truly honored. This book cuts across many religious differences in the service of God, resulting from different cultures and practices of men, cutting across countries like Nigeria, United Kingdom, and the United States. The world, although global, is also a small village and moving from one nation to another can either change the thinking of man through the acquisition of new knowledge or the dethronement of the knowledge already resident in man. A general picture of this book shows how cultural groups started and how traditions of men end up creeping into the church of Christ and dethrones the true laws of God and ends up satisfying the sinful nature of men who are not watchful.

If Adam and Eve had received these types of teachings when they were in the Garden of Eden, they would not have died. THE FRUIT OF LIFE IS THE WORD OF GOD. This is explained in John 15:1-6 THE TREE OF LIFE IS THE WORD OF GOD WHICH YOU MUST EAT. MAN SHOULD ENDEAVOR TO GAIN ETERNAL LIFE THROUGH THE WORD OF GOD. JOHN 12:48-50. "Do you know that My Teachings will give you everlasting life? THE FRUIT OF LIFE IS NO OTHER THING THAN THE GOSPEL WHICH I GIVE YOU. EVERYTHING IS EMBEDDED IN THESE TEACHINGS. MY TEACHINGS HAVE TWELVE DIFFERENT TYPES OF FRUIT WHICH STAND FOR THE TWELVE POWERS OF MAN." (By----Leader Olumba Olumba Obu)

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Africa and around the world, the church has been established through the faithful effort of men and women working together for the sake of the gospel. However, failure to acknowledge women’s contributions in evangelism and ministry – or to integrate women’s stories into the history of the church – has led to treating women as secondary within the body of Christ. Women in Mission explores the powerful legacy of women in SIM (formerly, Sudan Interior Mission) and the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), demonstrating that from the beginning women have been active and essential participants in the work of God in Nigeria. Dr. Lami Rikwe Ibrahim Bakari examines various theological and cultural frameworks for understanding the role of women in society before delving into the rich historical reality of women’s involvement in Nigerian church history. This study is a powerful reminder that God’s call to partner in the gospel is not limited by sex, and that it is precisely in recognizing women as primary and active participants in God’s mission – maximizing and not suppressing their giftings –that the kingdom of God is best served.

Book excerpt: In industrial societies imagining the future is a serious business; our assumptions about the future govern the present management of domestic, national and global resources, and are projected, some would say inflicted, on societies whose visions are different. Contemporary Futures focuses not so much on whether the future can be known, but on interpreting the way we and others picture it. The contributors, all social anthropologists, explore the effects that this picture has on the present, on group identity and belief in the self and its survival, on our relationships with other cultures, and on the future itself. They provide a cross-cultural perspective on a range of futures visualised at this time and discusses the implications of

Book excerpt: Veils, Turbans, and Islamic Reform in Northern Nigeria tells the story of Islamic reform from the perspective of dress, textile production, trade, and pilgrimage over the past 200 years. As Islamic reformers have sought to address societal problems such as poverty, inequality, ignorance, unemployment, extravagance, and corruption, they have used textiles as a means to express their religious positions on these concerns. Home first to the early indigo trade and later to a thriving textile industry, northern Nigeria has been a center for Islamic practice as well as a place where everything from women's hijabs to turbans, buttons, zippers, short pants, and military uniforms offers a statement on Islam. Elisha P. Renne argues that awareness of material distinctions, religious ideology, and the political and economic contexts from which successive Islamic reform groups have emerged is important for understanding how people in northern Nigeria continue to seek a proper Islamic way of being in the world and how they imagine their futures—spiritually, economically, politically, and environmentally.
