This mostly swampy area was called The Plain of Reeds and was also the southernmost entrance of The Ho Chi Minh Trail into South Vietnam only about forty-five kilometers from Saigon. The local insurgents were experts of small unit warfare and would resort to any tactic to push the "American Devils" out of the way of North Vietnamese troops and supplies. These local Viet Cong units occasionally assisted large NVA units that attempted tactical forays into the 251h Division area of operation. The author presents these chapters with a perspective of realism that any veteran would surely agree with or at least appreciate.
