Download or read book B-25 Mitchell Illustrated written by and published by . This book was released on 2018-05-07 with total page 93 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "B-25 Mitchell Illlustrated" is the first of a planned series of books on military aircraft of all eras. As the title indicates, these books will concentrate on the visual aspects of military aircraft, including many construction, exterior and interior details. Text is largely limited to descriptive captions of the over 200 photos and illustrations. The art is produced by Lou Drendel, an aviation illustrator with over 50 years of experience in aviation illustration and publishing. The B-25 Mitchell is the most famous World War II medium bomber, serving on all fronts of that war. This first of the planned series includes many period color photos, depicting the construction and use of the Mitchell. There are many color nose art photos that the author believes are being seen in print for the first time. A further note about this book: This was the first of my "Illustrated" series of books and was self-published as an ebook only. At the time I did this book, not many ebooks contained the number of pictures I was used to including in my books, and the layout tools were not generally available to make a high quality book. This specific book came about because the editors at my previous publishing house could not, or would not, make the effort to accomodate the period photos herein which were so important to the book. Fortunately, the tools are now available, and this print version of the "B-25 Mitchell Illustrated" is a quality example of those advances.

Book Synopsis A-4 Skyhawk vs North Vietnamese AAA by : Peter E. Davies
Download or read book A-4 Skyhawk vs North Vietnamese AAA written by Peter E. Davies and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2020-09-17 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While the F105 Thunderchief was the USAF's principal strike weapon during the Rolling Thunder campaign, the US Navy relied on the Douglas A-4 Skyhawk for the majority of its strikes on North Vietnam. The Skyhawk entered service in 1956 and remained in continuous production for 26 years. Throughout Operation Rolling Thunder it was the US Navy's principal daytime light strike bomber, remaining in use after its replacement, the more sophisticated A-7 Corsair II, began to appear in December 1967. During the 1965–68 Rolling Thunder period, up to five attack carriers regularly launched A-4 strike formations against North Vietnam. These formations faced an ever-expanding and increasingly coordinated Soviet-style network of anti-aircraft artillery missiles and fighters. Skyhawk pilots were often given the hazardous task of attacking anti-aircraft defences and to improve accuracy, they initially dropped ordnance below 3000 ft in a 30-degree dive in order to bomb visually below the persistent low cloud over North Vietnam, putting the aircraft within range of small-arms fire. The defenders had the advantage of covering a relatively small target area, and the sheer weight of light, medium and heavy gunfire directed at an attacking force brought inevitable casualties, and a single rifle bullet could have the same effect as a larger shell. This illustrated title examines both the A-4 Skyhawk and the Vietnamese AAA defences in context, exploring their history and analysing their tactics and effectiveness during the conflict.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Historian John D. Marshall wrote, "History is shaped by the memories of those who witness it, and the intentions of those who record it." Vietnam veteran Hiawatha Oakes wrote, "I can't thank you enough for your efforts in obtaining a photo of my H-21, the 'Blue Angel', and having it in your book. My family calls your book, "lost pieces of treasures found." These two quotations represent all that is relevant to the author in history gathering: the hard work and its rewards. Besides the 165 images, there are search aids for locating one's former in-country Army helicopter. A listing is available of American sites where Huey & Cobra rides are available. The Army museum in Alabama offers a listing they have compiled of two-dozen recommended Huey photo-books. A tabulation of 300 AH-1 Cobra war survivors, their former units, and present location. Also offered is a database of 500 newly found in-country Army helicopter names. There's a little something for everyone.
