Book Synopsis A Bibliography of George Berkeley by : T.E. Jessop
Download or read book A Bibliography of George Berkeley written by T.E. Jessop and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the first appearance of this bibliography (1934, Oxford Uni versity Press), which has long been out of print, so much attention has been paid to Berkeley that a mere reprint would be inept. Besides bringing it up to date I have added collations of those editions of Berkeley's writings that were published in his lifetime. In doing so I have used a form of description simple enough for anyone to follow yet sufficient to enable librarians to check their catalogues and to identify copies in which the titlepage is missing or mutilated. As before, I have marked with an asterisk throughout the bibliography every book, edition and article that has not been seen by me or, in a few cases, by a competent friend. My primary interest not being bibliographical in the present-day highly technical sense, but philosophical, I have aimed chiefly at (a) providing advanced students (and their hard-pressed advisers) of Berkeley, or of the subjects on which he wrote, with a guide to the materials for research, and (b) displaying the range in time and place, and the direction, of the attention which he has attracted. These two aims account for the classification of the entries under a few general subject-headings and of the philosophical entries under countries, and for the arranging of the entries in each section or subsection in chrono logical order, the alphabetical ordering of the authors' names being given in the Index. To facilitate reference and cross-reference each entry is numbered.

Apart from correcting mistakes, the second edition extends the coverage of material until 1986 and includes many items from 1987 and 1988. Book Synopsis The Business Strategy of Booker T. Washington by : Michael B. Boston
Download or read book The Business Strategy of Booker T. Washington written by Michael B. Boston and published by University Press of Florida. This book was released on 2010-08-29 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Michael Boston offers a radical departure from other interpretations of Booker T. Washington by focusing on the latter’s business ideas and practices. More specifically, Boston examines Washington as an entrepreneur, spelling out his business philosophy at great length and discussing the influence it had on black America. He analyzes the national and regional economies in which Washington worked and focuses on his advocacy of black business development as the key to economic uplift for African Americans. The result is a revisionist book that responds to the skewed literature on Washington even as it offers a new framework for understanding him. Based upon a deep reading of the Tuskegee archives, it acknowledges Washington not only as a champion of black business development but one who conceived and implemented successful strategies to promote it as well. The Business Strategy of Booker T. Washington makes abundantly clear that Washington was not an accommodationist; it will be required reading for any future discussion of this titan of history.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A broad cultural history of the postwar US, this book traces how middle-class white Americans increasingly embraced figures they understood as outsiders and used them to re-imagine their own cultural position as marginal and alienated. Romanticizing outsiders and becoming rebels, middle-class whites denied the contradictions between self-determination and social connection.
