Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Demonstration Project No. 50, Sprinkle Treatment of Asphalt Pavements, was announced in November 1977. Fourteen participating agencies have constructed 25 separate demonstration installations in connection with this project, and one more is planned for later this year. This report presents a comparative summary of these projects, the history and background of sprinkle treatment, design considerations and construction guidelines, economic considerations, and specific construction and performance data for each project. Information from sprinkle treatment projects and corresponding control sections is tabulated and analyzed. Recommendations are made based on the experience gained from these projects. Aggregate types, aggregate gradations, coating rates and asphalt cements used for precoating, construction controls, equipment requirements, weather conditions during construction, placement problems and solutions, construction costs, sprinkle aggregate retention, and skid performance with texture measurement and speed gradients are a few of the subject areas covered in detail.

This book was released on 1994 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has been estimated that over 60 asphalt mix designs are being specified by the various local governments and design consultants in the Denver metropolitan area. As material batches are ordered for delivery to these various agencies, the producers are required to constantly change their mixing formulations and plant operations. This constantly changing process results in inefficiencies in production time and cost to the buyer, as well as variability in the process. The problem is intensified when towns and communities order small amounts of material for a local street project. In March, 1994 a Government Forum was held in conjunction with the annual meeting of the Colorado Asphalt Pavement Association. At this forum, a decision was made to organize a Task Force to address this problem and provide recommendations for asphalt paving materials in the Denver Metropolitan area. This report presents the recommendations of that Task Force. The recommendations include gradation, asphalt cement type, additives, RAP, voids, and laboratory design properties. Four standard mixes were identified.

Book excerpt: Asphalt Pavements provides the know-how behind the design, production and maintenance of asphalt pavements and parking lots. Incorporating the latest technology, this book is the first to focus primarily on the design, production and maintenance of low-volume roads and parking areas. Special attention is given to determining the traffic capacity, required thickness and asphalt mixture type for parking applications. Topics covered include: material information such as binder properties, testing grading and selection; construction information such as mixing plant operation, proportioning, mixture placement and compaction; and design information such as thickness and mixture design methods and guidelines on applying these to highways, city streets and parking Areas. It is an essential practical guide aimed at those engineers and architects who are not directly involved in the asphalt industry, but who nonetheless need to have a good general knowledge of the subject. Asphalt Pavements provides a novice with enough information to completely design, construct and specify an asphalt pavement.
