This book was released on 2023-07-21 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a compilation of knowledge about computer models in the three-phase stator reference frame. Chapters explore several aspects of the topic and build upon research previously presented by contributors. The book aims to provide interesting solutions to problems encountered in the design of railway and analysis in railway motors. The modeling approaches proposed by the authors in this book may become an incentive for readers and researchers to develop their ‘lifehacks’ to solve new problems in induction motor design and testing. Key topics presented in the book: - Approximate calculations of induction motor equivalent T-shaped circuit parameters with the use of catalogue data - Simulations of different types of shaft load, including fluid coupling - Receiving static characteristics of an electric machine during simulation by means of dynamic model - Simulation of the electric drive’s specific applications with three-phase induction motors building - Direct start of an induction motor as part of an auxiliary drive of an AC electric locomotive, containing a capacitor phase splitter, starting with different types of shaft loads (fan or compressor). Special attention has been given to the description of the thermal model of an induction motor with a squirrel-cage rotor, which makes it possible to simulate operating modes when powered by an unbalanced voltage, as well as with squirrel cage defects. The thermal model is presented as a detailed superstructure to the model of electromechanical processes of an induction electric machine. Other key features of the book include references for further reading, an appendix for the parameters of the equivalent thermal circuit of an NVA-55 induction motor. The material presented in the book is of interest to railway motor engineers, specialists in electromechanics and electric drives who use SPICE-compatible CAD applications in their work.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Monitoring and diagnosis of electrical machine faults is a scientific and economic issue which is motivated by objectives for reliability and serviceability in electrical drives. This book provides a survey of the techniques used to detect the faults occurring in electrical drives: electrical, thermal and mechanical faults of the electrical machine, faults of the static converter and faults of the energy storage unit. Diagnosis of faults occurring in electrical drives is an essential part of a global monitoring system used to improve reliability and serviceability. This diagnosis is performed with a large variety of techniques: parameter estimation, state observation, Kalman filtering, spectral analysis, neural networks, fuzzy logic, artificial intelligence, etc. Particular emphasis in this book is put on the modeling of the electrical machine in faulty situations. Electrical Machines Diagnosis presents original results obtained mainly by French researchers in different domains. It will be useful as a guideline for the conception of more robust electrical machines and indeed for engineers who have to monitor and maintain electrical drives. As the monitoring and diagnosis of electrical machines is still an open domain, this book will also be very useful to researchers.

The book focuses specifically on detailed device-level models for their hardware realization in a massively parallel and deeply pipelined manner as well as decomposition techniques for emulating large systems. Each chapter contains fundamental concepts, apparatus models, solution algorithms, and hardware emulation to assist the reader in understanding the material contained within. Case studies are peppered throughout the book, ranging from small didactic test circuits to realistically sized large-scale AC-DC grids. The book also provides introductions to FPGA and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) emulation procedures, and large-scale networks constructed by the foundational components described in earlier chapters. With a strong focus on high-voltage direct-current power transmission grid applications, Real-Time Electromagnetic Transient Simulation of AC-DC Networks covers both system-level and device-level mathematical models. Readers will also enjoy the inclusion of: A thorough introduction to field programmable gate array technology, including the evolution of FPGAs, technology trends, hardware architectures, and programming tools An exploration of classical power system components, e.g., linear and nonlinear passive power system components, transmission lines, power transformers, rotating machines, and protective relays A comprehensive discussion of power semiconductor switches and converters, i.e., AC-DC and DC-DC converters, and specific power electronic apparatus such as DC circuit breakers An examination of decomposition techniques used at the equipment-level as well as the large-scale system-level for real-time EMT emulation of AC-DC networks Chapters that are supported by simulation results from well-defined test cases and the corresponding system parameters are provided in the Appendix Perfect for graduate students and professional engineers studying or working in electrical power engineering, Real-Time Electromagnetic Transient Simulation of AC-DC Networks will also earn a place in the libraries of simulation specialists, senior modeling and simulation engineers, planning and design engineers, and system studies engineers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thermal modeling is an important aspect of electric motor design. Numerous techniques exist to predict the temperatures in a motor, and they can be incorporated in the design of a thermal model for a new type of electric motor. This work discusses the available modeling techniques and determines which methods are applicable for medium-sized motors with either natural convection or forced convective cooling over irregular geometry. A time-dependant thermal model, with thermal transport parameters based upon geometric and simplified air flow information, is developed based on a discrete lumped parameter model with several modifications to improve accuracy. The model was completed with the aid of nine experiments, and the result is a thermal model that exhibits an absolute error of less than 6.1°C for the nine test runs at three different currents between 8.4 A rms and 28.2 A rms and three cooling levels, natural, 10.7 CFM and 24.4 CFM.

Book excerpt: Electric Motors and Drives is intended for non-specialist users of electric motors and drives, filling the gap between maths- and theory-based academic textbooks and the more prosaic 'handbooks', which provide useful detail but little opportunity for the development of real insight and understanding. The book explores all of the widely-used modern types of motor and drive, including conventional and brushless D.C., induction motors and servo drives, providing readers with the knowledge to select the right technology for a given job. The third edition includes additional diagrams and worked examples throughout. New topics include digital interfacing and control of drives, direct torque control of induction motors and current-fed operation in DC drives. The material on brushless servomotors has also been expanded. Austin Hughes' approach, using a minimum of maths, has established Electric Motors and Drives as a leading guide for electrical engineers and mechanical engineers, and the key to a complex subject for a wider readership, including technicians, managers and students. Acquire knowledge of and understanding of the capabilities and limitations of motors and drives without struggling through unnecessary maths and theory Updated material on the latest and most widely-used modern motors and drives, including brushless servomotors New edition includes additional diagrams and worked examples throughout
