This book was released on 1995-07-27 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a comprehensive account of the structure and function of the human and mammalian larynx. The aut hor draws on his unique clinical experience and collection of over 1200 specimens from around the world, to produce an authoritative book which relates the anatomy of the larynx to its function in respiration, locomotion and vocalisation. This will be an invaluable reference for surgeons and researchers in laryngology, as well as for anatomists, zoologists and anaesthesiologists.

Book Synopsis The Physiological Control of Mammalian Vocalization by : J.D. Newman
Download or read book The Physiological Control of Mammalian Vocalization written by J.D. Newman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To the majority of biologists, the physiological control of mammalian vocalizations is only a small part of the large field of motor physiology. It is indeed a very specialized part, and the number of scientists dealing with it is relatively small. Still, it is an autonomous subject embracing more than the motor control of the body and is, therefore, by far more complex. Anatomically, essential cerebral structures involved in the control of gross and fine movements of the mammalian body seem to participate in the control of the voice as well. The central control system, however, as well as the larynx (the primary effector organ), possess features not found in the remaining motor system. An example is the perfect synergism of the many muscles which control the m. vocaZis, not to speak of the speed of successions in which this occurs. Furthermore, this muscle, similar to the facial muscles, is segmentally adjustable independently of the joints. The most remarkable feature of the central control area, however, seems to be the effector organ's manifold direct and indirect dependence on the limbic system of the brain. This makes the voice--like no other motor organ (with the partial exception of the facial musculature)--the chief organ for the expression of emotion and the indicator of behavioral states. Except in man, the voice is in dependent of neocortical control. Animal vocalizations are species typical and genetically programmed. Ethologically, they belong to the behavioral class of fixed action patterns.

Book Synopsis Functional Histoanatomy of the Human Larynx by : Kiminori Sato
Download or read book Functional Histoanatomy of the Human Larynx written by Kiminori Sato and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-02-14 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the anatomical and histological structure of the human larynx by demonstrating gross, histological, and electron microscopic photographs for all professionals interested in the human larynx. In the first part, sagittal, horizontal and coronal whole-organ serial sections of adult and newborn larynges are shown in color photographs. The whole-organ serial histological sections of the human larynx are very unique in the world. In the second part, the functional morphology of the human larynx is also shown in superb and breathtaking photographs. The specimens in this textbook have been assembled into a concise synopsis of laryngology commonly encountered in clinical practice. Functional Histoanatomy of the Human Larynx is intended to facilitate an in-depth understanding not only the structure of each component but also the special relationships between them, as well as the microstructure and functional morphology of the human larynx and of the vocal fold as a vibrating tissue. Lavishly illustrated and documented, this book offers a wealth of information on the functional morphology of the larynx.
