Book Synopsis Literature 1980, Part 1 by : Siegfried Böhme
Download or read book Literature 1980, Part 1 written by Siegfried Böhme and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 949 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Astronomy and Astrophysics Abstracts, which has appeared in semi-annual volumes since 1969, is de voted to the recording, summarizing and indexing of astronomical publications throughout the world. It is prepared under the auspices of the International Astronomical Union (according to a resolution adopted at the 14th General Assembly in 1970). Astronomy and Astrophysics Abstracts aims to present a comprehensive documentation of literature in all fields of astronomy and astrophysics. Every effort will be made to ensure that the average time interval between the date of receipt of the original literature and publication of the abstracts will not exceed eight months: This time interval is near to that achieved by monthly abstracting journals, com pared to which our system of accumulating abstracts for about six months offers the advantage of greater convenience for the user. I, 1980; some older Volume 27 contains literature published in 1980 and received before August literature which was received late and which is not recorded in earlier volumes is also included. We acknowledge with thanks contributions to this volume by Dr. J. Bouska, Prague, who surveyed journals and publications in Czech and supplied us with abstracts in English.
Book Synopsis Laser Metrology in Fluid Mechanics by : Alain Boutier
Download or read book Laser Metrology in Fluid Mechanics written by Alain Boutier and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-02-20 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In fluid mechanics, non-intrusive measurements are fundamental in order to improve knowledge of the behavior and main physical phenomena of flows in order to further validate codes. The principles and characteristics of the different techniques available in laser metrology are described in detail in this book. Velocity, temperature and concentration measurements by spectroscopic techniques based on light scattered by molecules are achieved by different techniques: laser-induced fluorescence, coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering using lasers and parametric sources, and absorption spectroscopy by tunable laser diodes, which are generally better suited for high velocity flows. The size determination of particles by optical means, a technique mainly applied in two-phase flows, is the subject of another chapter, along with a description of the principles of light scattering. For each technique the basic principles are given, as well as optical devices and data processing. A final chapter reminds the reader of the main safety precautions to be taken when using powerful lasers.
Book Synopsis Oxidative Stress by : Volodymyr Lushchak
Download or read book Oxidative Stress written by Volodymyr Lushchak and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2012-05-02 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the numerous applications of oxidative stress theory in effects of environmental factors on biological systems. The topics reviewed cover induction of oxidative stress by physical, chemical, and biological factors in humans, animals, plants and fungi. The physical factors include temperature, light and exercise. Chemical induction is related to metal ions and pesticides, whereas the biological one highlights host-pathogen interaction and stress effects on secretory systems. Antioxidants, represented by a large range of individual compounds and their mixtures of natural origin and those chemically synthesized to prevent or fix negative effects of reactive species are also described in the book. This volume will be a useful source of information on induction and effects of oxidative stress on living organisms for graduate and postgraduate students, researchers, physicians, and environmentalists.
Book Synopsis The Mechanics of Ice by : John W. Glen

Book excerpt: This monograph summarizes knowledge of the mechanics of ice. It is concerned principally with the effect of stress on the mechanical properties of ice, including elasticity, anelasticity, sound propagation, plastic deformation and creep in single crystals and in polycrystalline ice, fracture, and recrystallization and grain growth that accompanies plastic deformation. The monograph also includes a comprehensive bibliography.

Book Synopsis Nanocomposites with Unique Properties and Applications in Medicine and Industry by : John Cuppoletti
Download or read book Nanocomposites with Unique Properties and Applications in Medicine and Industry written by John Cuppoletti and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2011-08-23 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains chapters on nanocomposites for engineering hard materials for high performance aircraft, rocket and automobile use, using laser pulses to form metal coatings on glass and quartz, and also tungsten carbide-cobalt nanoparticles using high voltage discharges. A major section of this book is largely devoted to chapters outlining and applying analytic methods needed for studies of nanocomposites. As such, this book will serve as good resource for such analytic methods.
