Book excerpt: America is under attackfrom within. American Manifesto identi?es the enemyself-serving federal legislatorsand proposes a peaceful, legal solution: depriving them of re-election. American Manifesto highlights the current decline and envisions the possible destruction of the United States of America. It places responsibility on the self-serving and self-perpetuating behavior of the United States senators and representatives who have spent and borrowed us to the brink of ?nancial collapse. By pandering to the American Left, labor unions, lawyers, environmentalists, and other vote-buying interests instead of conscientiously serving us by effectively addressing our excessive spending, the insolvency of entitlement programs, our arbitrary and unduly burdensome tax laws, and the erosion of our military strength and international standing, these professional politicians have our once-great country on the brink of ruin. American Manifesto proposes to make federal legislators work for us rather than themselves in the only way possibleand outlines just how this can be done.

Book excerpt: The Star Children are back to save America yet again. They're requested by the military and American patriots to help plan, launch, and defend a revolution in the USA to take back the country from a treasonous and corrupt government. This fictional story is presented in American Manifesto and is based largely upon and mirrors recognizable past and current political events commonly seen in the media and Internet. The developed strategy is masterfully conceived, highly unconventional, exceptionally high tech, and initially extremely shocking. The story describes how this Coup was planned and implemented and delves into the "Whys". American Manifesto is a SciFi standalone story that is built upon characters created in Star Children, a recent Finalist in the New Mexico/Arizona Book Awards. It relates the history of the Star Children and their involvement in helping save Earth from world domination. They are gifted with acute, mental powers created by genetic engineering of an alien race, the Arcadians. The Star Children use their keen intellect and advanced alien technology to purge the U.S. government of the treasonous conspirators and operatives heavily embedded within the government. They are aided in the planning strategy by General Max Bruner, a NAZI SS military operative from a secret base in Antarctica. In this story the American Manifesto becomes a rallying document embraced by the American patriots, which dictates to the government a declarations of conformity to the revolution, a document that will go down in the annals of infamy alongside the Declaration of Independence.

Book excerpt: Do you fear for our democracy? Are you ready to throw in the towel? Don't! This is your guidebook to reassembling our hyperpolarized American society in six (not-so-easy) steps, written by the cohost of WNYC's On the Media. As is often observed, Trump is a symptom of a virus that has been incubating for at least fifty years. But not often observed is where the virus is imbedded: in the psychic core of our identity. In American Manifesto: Saving Democracy from Villains, Vandals, and Ourselves, popular media personality Bob Garfield examines the tragic confluence of the American preoccupation with identity and the catastrophic disintegration of the mass media. Garfield investigates how we've gotten to this moment when our identity is threatened by both the left and the right, when e pluribus unum is no longer a source of national pride, and why, when looking through this lens of identity, the rise of Trumpism is no surprise. Overlaying this crisis is the rise of the Facebook-Google duopoly and the filter bubble of social media, where identity is insular and immutable. But fear not! WNYC's On the Media cohost Garfield has ideas about how we may counter the forces of fragmentation—the manifesto itself: six steps to take to reassemble our fractured society. A quick, fascinating read, American Manifesto offers not only a vision of a country in extremis, but also a plan for how to address the ways in which our democracy is imperiled. Provocative, profound, and sometimes hilariously profane, American Manifesto is a call to action like no other.

Book excerpt: In this compelling study of the moral principles that most influenced the thinking of Abraham Lincoln, historian Allen Jayne argues persuasively that Lincoln regarded the Declaration of Independence, above all other documents, as the most important embodiment of American principles. This "American manifesto," as Jayne calls it, with its eloquent expression of the ideals of individual liberty and government created to protect and preserve that liberty, was the script that Lincoln followed in his struggle to preserve the Union and extend individual liberties to African Americans. Moreover, Jayne demonstrates that Lincoln''s philosophy was rooted, not in a Bible-based evangelical Christian perspective, but in the European Enlightenment and deism, which so profoundly influenced the thinking of Thomas Jefferson and other Founding Fathers. Jayne begins with a chapter devoted to the influence of deism on Jefferson''s formulation of the Declaration of Independence. Next, he discusses Lincoln''s adoption of the deistic perspective and the crucial role that the Declaration played in his thoughts and actions. He also considers Lincoln''s moral sense, based on deism''s tolerance of different belief systems and universal moral idealism. Finally, he describes Lincoln''s role as chief advocate for the Declaration''s principles and how the Gettysburg Address and his Second Inaugural Address reflect this underlying philosophy. This insightful look into the thinking of one of our nation''s greatest presidents during a time of crisis is highly relevant in today''s climate of religious extremism and debates over the balance between individual liberty and national security.

Book excerpt: The real Axis of Evil is… * The Religion of Humanism * American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) * National Education Association (NEA) It’s time to get back to some old-fashioned values like commitment and sacrifice and responsibility and purity and love and the straight life. Not only will our children benefit from our self-discipline and perseverance, but we adults will live in a less neurotic world, too! In the case Torcaso v. Watkins (in 1961) the U.S. Supreme Court stated, “Among religions in this country which do not teach what would generally be considered a belief in the existence of God are Buddhism, Taoism, Ethical Culture, Secular Humanism and others.”

Book excerpt: Author Boy Lafayette De Mente blames male dominance, invalid and inhuman religious dogma, a new morality based on money and a political system that is dysfunctional for all of problems besetting the United States.De Mente says that the primary cause of the failures of human cultures since day one has been males who put power over females, tribalism, territorialism and race above the rights of people in general."As the eons passed there was a growing awareness among male leaders of the need for rules to control the animalistic attitudes and behavior of men but all of the institutions they created-including religions-continued to reflect the primitive nature of human males-and this nature is responsible for the mess the world is in today," he added. This book details the negative consequences of male dominance in every area of human endeavor, beginning with religions and including business, politics, education, entertainment and the news media, and suggests remedies for the cultural morass that threatens the American dream and imperils the rest of the world.Among the topics dealt with in the book: the harmful influence of advertising, sleaze entertainment, prostitution, the rise of pornography as a major industry, child abuse, sexual abuse, violence, the excess consumption syndrome, the ongoing anti-female dogma of religions, the growth of newspeak to control people, and the good and the bad of the Internet. One of the more unusual recommendations in the book is that parents around the world should emulate the samurai, the hereditary warrior class that ruled Japan from 1192 until the late 1860s, in educating their children. "The 26 attributes samurai parents taught their children reflect wisdom that is still rare in today's world" De Mente said. The 26 attributes are included in the text of the book.
