Book Synopsis Linked Data for Digital Humanities by : Terhi Nurmikko-Fuller
Download or read book Linked Data for Digital Humanities written by Terhi Nurmikko-Fuller and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-08-18 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Linked Data for Digital Humanities provides insights into how digital technologies can enrich and diversify humanities scholarship and make it pioneering in the digital age. Written in non-specialist language, the book illustrates how information is captured, published, represented, accessed, and interpreted using computational systems and, in doing so, shows how technologies actively shape the way we understand what we encounter. Focusing as it does on underlying Web architecture and projects accessible online, the book has an inherently international focus. The interdisciplinary case study examples include bibliographic data from works published in England between 1470 and 1700; literature from ancient Iraq; jazz performances, predominantly from the USA in the 1930s; and even reach as far as an alien, fictional future. Whilst these case study examples span vast spatio-temporal distances, they all share a common thread in the use of the Linked Data information publication paradigm. Using existing computer science methods, as well as processes such as ontology development and database design, the book also includes reflections on practical considerations and offers advice about how to take institutional policies, socio-cultural sensitivities, and economic models into consideration when implementing Linked Data projects. Linked Data for Digital Humanities discusses technological issues in the context of Humanities scholarship, bridging disciplines and enabling informed conversations across disciplinary boundaries. It will be of interest to humanities scholars, computer and data scientists, and library and information scientists.

Book Synopsis Bothe Richter Teherani by : Klaus-Dieter Weiss
Download or read book Bothe Richter Teherani written by Klaus-Dieter Weiss and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2005-11-25 with total page 524 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Impressive in size, emotional and visual impact, the buildings of Hamburg-based architects Bothe Richter Teherani are also remarkable for their attention to finishing detail, functionality and financial accountability, and have won international recognition. BRT s style is provocative and controversial; it took the city of Cologne 10 years to come to terms with their glass crane structures, predestined to become the heart of the Rhine and Ruhr valleys, and BRT s project to build Europe s highest building in the waters of Hamburg harbour is the subject of heated discussion. BRT s labyrinthine yet systematic concepts to maximize space in office buildings, the futuristic connotations of space shuttles and zeppelins, and their treatment of urban and public spaces are documented in this volume. The accompanying essays and text contributions investigate the aims of the architects, somewhere between pragmatism and vision, between fine detail and the greater complexity of urban life.

Download or read book The Aftermath written by Rhidian Brook and published by Vintage. This book was released on 2013-09-17 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 1946, post-World War II Hamburg. While thousands wander the rubble, lost and homeless, Colonel Lewis Morgan, charged with overseeing the rebuilding of this devastated city and the denazification of its defeated people, is stationed in a grand house on the River Elbe. He is awaiting the arrival of his wife, Rachael—still grieving for their eldest son—and their only surviving son, Edmund. But rather than force the owners of the house, a German widower and his rebellious daughter, out onto the streets, Lewis insists that the two families live together. In this charged atmosphere, both parents and children will be forced to confront their true selves as enmity and grief give way to passion and betrayal, to their deepest desires, their fiercest loyalties, and the transforming power of forgiveness. This courageous new novel from award-winning author Rhidian Brook tells an emotionally riveting story of two families, one house, and love grown from hate. This ebook edition includes a Reading Group Guide.
