Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Politics has always held a special place in the goals of many of the Abernathy tribe. This volume describes three of them. One is a paleontologist, one is a small town sheriff and the third is a lawyer. All of these men live and operate in Canada. One even becomes Prime Minister. The Internet is used as a political tool and many of the suggestions in the book make common sense and offer a truly bipartisan approach to many of the problems that face us all, regardless of country. The stories have humor and since all Abernathys are women chasers and drink vodka they may even represent today's politicians.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Religion is a part of all our lives. The Abernathy clan is no exception. It would be destined that at least two of them would respond to the call for worship, and two of them did. The Reverend Malcolm Abernathy followed the faith of the Anglican Church and Father Umberto Abernathy opted for the Roman Catholic Church. These two men spent most of their time in Canada, Malcolm getting into politics for a while and Umberto introduced what he considered a more practical approach to awarding of penances. In both instances the Abernathy genes prevailed and neither one practiced abstinence which was a more serious situation with Umberto than with Malcolm. Their lives and exploits are not to be taken too seriously. They are obviously figments of the imagination of the author, and are meant to be enjoyed or possibly envied.

The Abernathy clan is certainly no exception. This book covers the antics of two of them: Vladimir and Enrique Abernathy. One is an assassin employed by a special branch of Scotland Yard and the other is a jewel thief. The incentive behind both men is obviously money. They lust after women like all the clan and have a thirst for Stoli vodka. Vlad and Enrique team up with attractive women as partners and pursue their nefarious activities with the luck of the Irish.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two of the Abernathy family had careers as lawmen. One of them, a cowboy from Kansas growing up in the days of Wild Bill Hickok learned the fast draw and started out as a hired gun but became a sheriff and landowner in New Mexico. The second Abernathy lived in modern times and grew up in Canada where he became a detective on the West Vancouver police department and received the famed Hercule Poirot trophy. Inspector Perry Abernathy was elevated to the position of Chief Constable in Nanaimo, a city on Vancouver Island. Both Abernathys, Red the sheriff and Perry the policeman exhibit the traditional family trait, namely a passion for the opposite sex and a love for vodka. The patriarch of the Canadian branch, the Reverend Abernathy sits in heaven and watches over his flock, making the occasional visit to help where he can. This is the fourth book on the Abernathys. They were very prolific and who knows when the stories will end.

An American cruise liner, the SS Kansas Star, rescues a handful of sailors, among them Harry and the third officer, an American named Tom Bradshaw. When Bradshaw dies in the night, Harry seizes on the chance to escape his tangled past and assumes his identity. But on landing in America, he quickly learns the mistake he has made, when he discovers what is awaiting Bradshaw in New York. Without any way of proving his true identity, Harry Clifton is now chained to a past that could be far worse than the one he had hoped to escape.

Book excerpt: Mom in Space is a complicated love letter to both the intergalactic and the terrestrial. Using the lens of spaceflight, Lisa Ampleman explores subjects ranging from the personal to the political, from fertility tests and parenting to climate change and civil rights. As NASA and commercial space companies gear up for Artemis missions to the moon, Mom in Space offers new conceptions of women in space, incorporating both fictional and real female astronauts, among them the first mom in space (Anna Fisher) and the first Black woman in space (Mae Jemison). With a sense of both awe and informed inquiry, Mom in Space considers what spaceflight means not just for those who get rocketed into space but for those who stay home.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What role has religion played in social protest movements? This important book examines how activists have used religious resources such as liturgy, prayer, song and vestments with a focus on the following global case studies: The mid-twentieth century US civil rights movement. The late twentieth century antiabortion movement in the United States of America. The early twenty-first century water protectors’ movement at Standing Rock, North Dakota. Indian independence led by Mohandas Gandhi in the early 1930s. The Polish Solidarity movement of the 1980s. The South African anti-apartheid movement of the 1980s and 1990s. Prayer as a sacred act is usually associated with piety and pacifism; however, it can be argued that those who pray in public while protesting are more likely to encounter violence. Drawing on journalistic accounts, participant reflections, and secondary literature, Religion and Social Protest Movements offers both historical and theoretical perspectives on the persistent correlation of the use of public prayer with an increase in conflict and violence. This book is an important read for students and researchers in history and religious studies, and those in related fields such as sociology, African-American studies, and Native American studies.

Book excerpt: Colt Jager never knew what happened to the parents who abandoned him at the age of three, and he never cared--until he inherited their ghoulish secret. By day, Colt is an average blue collar guy who drinks beer with his buddies and his biggest problem is getting flak for having a boyfriend, but on the eve of his twenty-fifth birthday, he turns into a monster who needs to feed on human flesh in order to survive. Raised as a human, he finds it hard to adjust to life in the Kinship, a hidden world woven discreetly into human society. After a grisly encounter with his true nature, Colt meets a family of "vegan ghouls" who teach him that there's a way to be inhuman without being inhumane. Things are going well until Colt realizes that he's one and the same with the ghoul responsible for the "wolf attack" that killed his boyfriend's brother. When an elite family of especially monstrous ghouls called Alphas threatens the man he loves, Colt will have to lie to Jason to keep him safe. Can a predator ever truly be a hero, or will the man he loves become his prey?
