And Mrs. Vester Oxendine for a lifetime of Christian ministry for the Lord Jesus. Bro. Vester and Sis. Iuey were married in February of 1938. They are parents of two children, Flora Jane and Weaner. Rev. And Mrs. Oxendine reside at Rte. 1, Rowland. Rev. Vester began his preaching ministry in 1929 at the age of 15. His early years m pastoral ministry were spent with some very fine Freewill Baptist congregations. He was pastor of St. Annah, Fair Point, and Hickory Hill. All of these are churches in the conference of Freewill Baptist churches in Robeson County; During the days of Rev. L.' W. Jacobs, Bro. Vester came to work with churches in the Burnt Swamp Association. He has served the following churches in our Association: Dogwood, South Hoke, Pleasant View and Union. Bro. Vester was a favorite preacher to be called upon for revivals and regularly spoke at our Burnt Swamp Unions and Annual meetings. He served on several committees while active in ministry and also was -a member of the Board of-ministers for Campbell College for the nc. Baptist State Convention. We remember with fondness the days of his preaching strength. He was one of the most popular preachers among us all and remained in great demand until his retirement years. We are thankful for his commitment to our Lord Jesus and his gift of proclama tion that blessed so many of our people. M. (dot) Queen, the former Dot Emory, was a dedicated and commltted servant of the Lord. She was an active member of Emma Baptist Church and served her Lord through the local church, association, and denomination for many, many years. Mrs. Queen was the first secretary of the Buncombe Baptist Association. She worked with Rev. Manly Hocutt in the infancy of the association, giving of herself with tireless effort, working many times with limited resources. She served as secretary for the association from 1950 to 1957. She served as associational Church Training Associate Adult Director for several years. In recentyears and up until the time of her death she served as secretary of the associational Church Training Coun cil. The council looked forward to the annual Church Training Council picnic in Mrs. Queen's backyard each summer. Mrs. Queen was active in the associational Church Training program right u\p through the evening of 'her sudden death. She will be remembered as a great Christian who gave of herself to the Lord's work in her local church and association.
