Book Synopsis Liberating Ministry from the Success Syndrome by : R. Kent Hughes
Download or read book Liberating Ministry from the Success Syndrome written by R. Kent Hughes and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2008-01-07 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every year thousands of God's servants leave the ministry convinced they are failures. Years ago, in the midst of a crisis of faith, Kent Hughes almost became one of them. But instead he and his wife Barbara turned to God's Word, determined to learn what God had to say about success and to evaluate their ministry from a biblical point of view. This book describes their journey and their liberation from the "success syndrome"-the misguided belief that success in ministry means increased numbers. In today's world it is easy to be seduced by the secular thinking that places a number on everything. But the authors teach that true success in ministry lies not in numbers but in several key areas: faithfulness, serving, loving, believing, prayer, holiness, and a Christlike attitude. Their thoughts will encourage readers who grapple with feelings of failure and lead them to a deeper, fuller understanding of success in Christian ministry. This book was originally published by Tyndale in 1987 and includes a new preface.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the desire and quest to make sense of the world and our existence, three great sirens have lured men and women into a lull with the empty promise to make their lives meaningful. The great king of Israel, Solomon, though the wisest man, was not immune to their song. But at the end of his life, Solomon, in all of his God-given wisdom, stopped to contemplate on all that competed for his attention. He wrote his conclusions in the Book of Ecclesiastes.Tommy Nelson continues his study of Solomon's writings by taking an in-depth look at Ecclesiastes. In a world such as ours, where the search for meaning and purpose propels mankind to try everything under the sun, Solomon's conclusions ring louder than ever for a people who need answers more than ever.

Book Synopsis Lead Like Jesus Revisited by : Ken Blanchard
Download or read book Lead Like Jesus Revisited written by Ken Blanchard and published by Thomas Nelson. This book was released on 2016-04-19 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The more I read the Bible, the more evident it becomes that everything I have ever taught or written about effective leadership over the past 25 years, Jesus did to perfection. He is simply the greatest leadership role model of all time." Effective leadership—whether on the job, in the community, at church, or in the home—starts on the inside. In this revised classic, renowned leadership expert Ken Blanchard guides you through the process of discovering how to lead like Jesus. Before you can hope to lead anyone else, you must know who you are. Every leader must answer two critical questions. One deals with your relationship to Christ. The other with your life purpose. Whose are you going to be? Who are you going to be? Learning to lead like Jesus can be described as the process of aligning two internal domains (the heart and the head) and two external domains (the hands and the habits). These four dimensions of leadership form the outline for this very practical and transformational book, from which you will learn how to: Integrate your faith with your role and responsibility as a leader Identify your priorities Build your relationship with God in a new and personal way Move from success to significance Lead out of service rather than self-interest Put the love of Jesus into action With simple yet profound principles from the life of Jesus, and dozens of stories and leadership examples from his own life, Ken Blanchard once again shows us the way effective leaders lead.

Book Synopsis The Way of Christian Service by : Zacharias Tanee Fomum
Download or read book The Way of Christian Service written by Zacharias Tanee Fomum and published by ZTF Books Online. This book was released on 2016-05-22 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Serving the Lord is something that is best begun in His immediate presence. When a person has served Him in His immediate presence and satisfied His heart, He may send such a one to go and serve on His behalf. Serving the Lord in His immediate presence consists essentially in worshipping Him. Of the leaders of the church in Antioch it was said, "While they were worshipping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, 'Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.' Then after fasting and praying, they laid their hands on them and sent them off" (Acts 13:2-3). Barnabas and Saul were sent out to serve from the presence of the Lord to the work to which God had called them. They were ministering in His presence when He sent them away to minister on His behalf. All service of the Lord ought to begin that way. Serving the Lord is invariably tied to resurrection life. No one can truly serve the Lord without that He, the Lord of all glory, has taken the initiative to bring that one into His service. This is so because those who serve Him must know death with Christ and resurrection with Him. Service is the flow of the life of God, and without resurrection life, there can be no flow. People can do many things in the Lord's name, but only that which flows from life will last, and to have the flow of life there must, first of all, be death. A person will minister in proportion to the extent to which he has died and risen with Christ. Those who spare them¬selves the hard demands of the cross will find that they have also spared themselves the ministry of life. The extent to which a person surrenders himself to death to the world and the flesh, is the extent to which that one will know resurrection life and resurrection ministry. There can be a work in might and power that is not fully of the Holy Spirit. Samson ministered in power, although he was out of vital fellowship with the Holy God. God demands holiness from all who would serve Him to His satisfaction. Finally, we want to say that Christian work is acceptable in His sight and satisfies His heart only to the extent to which it is in harmony with His will and under His direction. Every work that is outside His will and direction is not only useless; it is an abomination to Him. Too many believers today are doing nothing for the Lord. They are shy and withdrawn and lack boldness and a clear sense of direction. Where are those who would dare to step out at His command and take entire villages, towns, provinces, nations, and continents for Him? Where are those who would seek great things for Him? My prayer is that the Lord of the harvest should use these messages to raise servants and slaves unto His glorious Son, and that such will start in His presence and, as He directs, end in the uttermost parts of the world. Lord Jesus, ignore the weaknesses and shortcomings both of these messages and of the human messenger, and use them, Lord, for Your glory. Amen.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "So what?" That's the response many people have to the Bible. Read a passage, interpret it, and still they ask, "So, what difference does that make in my life?" In the Life Essentials Study Bible, renowned Bible teacher Gene Getz complements the full text of the popular HCSB translation by elaborating on 1,500 principles in Scripture that are as relevant today as when the sixty- six books of the Bible were written. Distilling these truths into principles, Getz helps the reader more easily remember and effectively apply the Bible's wisdom to everyday life. He explains how each of these principles represents a supracultural truth - one that can and should be applied at any moment in history and in every cultural situation. In addition, the Life Essentials Study Bible was created with an integrated digital study system--more than 250 hours of free online coaching content led by Getz--that fosters a greater understanding of the Bible's grand story. Along the way, Getz adds pertinent questions in print to inspire personal reflection or group discussion of each principle. There's also an introduction to each book of the Bible and its list of corresponding principles, plus a topical index and cross references for all 1,500 principles. Other features of this dynamic study Bible - available in six different editions - include a two-piece gift box (leather editions only) as well as a presentation page. "Owning a copy of this astounding project containing the prodigious work and wisdom of my friend and mentor Gene Getz will be like having him in the next room -- available to advise me on every passage. Being able to access his video teaching on each of the 1,500 ‘Principles to Live By’ is a breakthrough approach, making this truly the first multi-media study Bible. What a treasure! I know it will inform my own writing." Jerry Jenkins, owner, Christian Writer's Guild, and author of the Left Behind series
