Book Synopsis A Letter to My Grandson by : G. Spencer Myers
Download or read book A Letter to My Grandson written by G. Spencer Myers and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2022-02-20 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Letter to my Grandson is written to the world from the viewpoint of a successful grandfather who sees strong character qualities lacking in the world today. Myers writes about things like living with integrity, courage, and happiness that are not related to the biggest house, fastest car, or largest bank accounts. Chapter titles like: Any job worth doing is worth doing well; To know love, know yourself; Integrity is worth a fortune, but costs only five cents are anecdotal lessons that he hopes not only will serve his grandson Ian well, but also other sons and grandsons as well. G. Spencer Myers is a man on a mission to encourage others to live with respect for themselves, the earth, and those who share the planet with them. He has been a self-made millionaire and he's been nearly broke. He's made good decisions and others he might not do again. His straight-from the- hip style makes the reading easy and the lessons memorable. A great read for anyone age 18-80!

Book Synopsis Grandfather J. B.: Letters to My Grandson by : Joseph Bercovici
Download or read book Grandfather J. B.: Letters to My Grandson written by Joseph Bercovici and published by Quid Pro Books. This book was released on 2010-08-19 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Memoirs through poignant, witty letters written by a self-taught immigrant to his professor grandson in the Sixties, first published by Little, Brown and now in quality digital. Both sweet and acerbic, with plenty of subtext and wistfulness of dreams of philosophy or just going to college, the book compels attention for its strong characters deftly revealed by short letters--and always the stern correction of the "stubborn" grandson.Joseph Bercovici was proud of his "clan" of writers, artists, and professors, but was noticeably envious of their opportunities that passed him by. He shared himself deeply, if often unwittingly, in letters to a grandson, Joel, who was in the midst of becoming an acclaimed political scientist. Joseph chided the 6'4" "boy" on his VW bug, choosing political science and law as fields of study, using computers, and--interesting even today--the remarkable subtleties of English. But, irregardless (someone finally explains why that's wrong!), there is much life and love shared between them. With the letters skillfully compiled by clan-addition Mary Grossman, the story and his remarkable character unfold without ever seeing a reply letter. Through Joseph's searing but sometime naive eyes, the fascinating story of a family of prodigies is revealed, warts and all. Turns out, the poor immigrant did become an author, as with many of his children and descendants still, and this is his book. We have all had a grandfather just like this, and none of us has.

Book Synopsis Living Through the Generations by : Joanne McCloskey
Download or read book Living Through the Generations written by Joanne McCloskey and published by University of Arizona Press. This book was released on 2007-09-06 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Navajo womenÕs lives reflect the numerous historical changes that have transformed Òthe Navajo way.Ó At the same time, in their behavior, beliefs, and values, women preserve the legacy of Navajo culture passed down through the generations. By comparing and contrasting three generations of Navajo womenÑgrandmothers, mid-life mothers, and young mothersÑsimilarities and differences emerge in patterns of education, work, family life, and childbearing. WomenÕs roles as mothers and grandmothers are central to their respected position in Navajo society. Mothers bestow membership in matrilineal clans at birth and follow the example of the beloved deity Changing Woman. As guardians of cultural traditions, grandmothers actively plan and participate in ceremonies such as the Kinaald‡, the puberty ceremony, for their granddaughters. Drawing on ethnographic interviews with 77 women in Crownpoint, New Mexico, and surrounding chapters in the Eastern Navajo Agency, Joanne McCloskey examines the cultural traditions evident in Navajo womenÕs lives. Navajo women balance the demands of Western society with the desire to preserve Navajo culture for themselves and their families.

Book Synopsis To My Grandson with Love by : Jeanette Christy
Download or read book To My Grandson with Love written by Jeanette Christy and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2020-11-02 with total page 101 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2018, the pastor of my church challenged us to hand-write a prayer for seven consecutive days and give it to our grandchildren. My son had just lost his job, and times were tough. So for seven days, I made prayer cards which included my "art," a message, and a prayer for not only my grandsons but for my son and his wife as well. For seven nights, they would read their prayers at the dinner table and felt encouraged, knowing they were not only loved by family but more so by God. God has promised to be there in times of troubles, and He fulfilled His promise by helping my son find the perfect job. Teens today are facing many challenges, and too many are contemplating suicide; they can't see the purpose for their existence. I pray this book will help show them that they are loved and offer some advice on challenges they may face. But most importantly, to let them know they can rely on God; He will never leave them nor forsake them when they put their trust in Him. Inside these pages are life-changing prayers of grandparents for their grandchildren. What I love most about Jeanette is her deep desire that those in future generations love Jesus and find eternal satisfaction in Him. Add this book to your collection and join Jeanette in passing the baton of Christ-centered faith to the next generation! -Craig Trierweiler, Pastor at New Hope Community Church, Williamsburg, Michigan

On a clear spring day in 1995, five members of a religious cult unleashed poison gas on the Tokyo subway system. In attempt to discover why, Haruki Murakmi talks to the people who lived through the catastrophe, and in so doing lays bare the Japanese psyche. As he discerns the fundamental issues that led to the attack, Murakami paints a clear vision of an event that could occur anytime, anywhere.
