Book Synopsis Thailand-Vietnam Relations in the 1990s by : Kritapas Sajjapala
Download or read book Thailand-Vietnam Relations in the 1990s written by Kritapas Sajjapala and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis studies Thailand-Vietnam relations in the 1990s. Since Vietnam invaded Cambodia at the end of 1978, their bilateral relations became poor. In 1986, Vietnam implemented the “Doi Moi” policy to solve domestic economic problems. Chatichai Choonhavan the leader of Thailand responded to this new policy of Vietnam with the “turning the Indochina battlefields into market places” policy. These new policies improved the relations between the two countries. In the early 1990s, Thailand and Vietnam focused their cooperation on economic issues. They could agree on many sensitive issues in the late 1990s and cooperated in various areas. In the post-Cold War period, the major powers were unreliable for Vietnam. Unlike the regional organizations established earlier, ASEAN tried to avoid being influenced by major powers. Vietnam became more involved in ASEAN and gained membership in 1995 with Thailand’s support. Thailand and Vietnam also cooperated in sub-regional organizations.
Download or read book Virtual Thailand written by Glen Lewis and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2007-05-07 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by an established expert on Thailand, this is one of the first books to fully investigate the Thai media’s role during the Thaksin government’s first term. Incorporating political economy and media theory, the book provides a unique insight into globalization in Southeast Asia, analyzing the role of communications and media in regional cultural politics. Examining the period from the mid 1990s, Lewis makes a sustained comparison between Thailand and its neighbouring countries in relation to the media, business, politics and popular culture. Covering issues including business development, tourism, the Thai movie industry and the war on terror, the book argues that globalization as it relates to media, can be patterned on Thai experiences.

Book Synopsis Shifting Power in Asia-Pacific? by : Enrico Fels
Download or read book Shifting Power in Asia-Pacific? written by Enrico Fels and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-11-03 with total page 779 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book investigates whether a power shift has taken place in the Asia-Pacific region since the end of the Cold War. By systematically examining the development of power dynamics in Asia-Pacific, it challenges the notion that a wealthier and militarily more powerful China is automatically turning the regional tides in its favour. With a special emphasis on Sino-US competition, the book explores the alleged linkage between the regional distribution of relevant material and immaterial capabilities, national power and the much-cited regional power shift. The book presents a novel concept for measuring power in international relations by outlining a composite index on aggregated power (CIAP) that includes 55 variables for 44 regional countries and covers a period of twenty years. Moreover, it develops a middle power theory that outlines the significance of middle powers in times of major power shifts. By addressing political, military and economic cooperation via a structured-focused comparison and by applying a comparative-historical analysis, the book analyses in depth the bilateral relations of six regional middle powers to Washington and Beijing.
