Book excerpt: Associando-se a um amplo movimento comemorativo europeu e norte-americano, o Instituto de Estudos Filosóficos, com sede na Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Coimbra, em colaboração com a unidade de I&D L.I.F. In conjunction with a broad commemorative movement in Europe and America, the Institute for Philosophical Studies, based at the Faculty of Letters, University of Coimbra, in collaboration with the R&D unit L.I.F. – Language, Interpretation and Philosophy and with the “Centre for Philosophy” of the University of Lisbon organized on 19th and 20th November 2007 an international conference commemorating the 200th anniversary of Hegel’s Phenomenology of Spirit (first published in 1807). On the occasion of this conference, the Portuguese philosophical community had the opportunity to come up against some of the most recent orientation in the analysis of this philosopher’s oeuvre, putting itself to the test as regards its analytical skills. This volume offers a picture of that encounter, as faithful as possible to what were, at the time, the papers offered by/expositions of the various authors.

Download or read book Hegel: Philosophy of Mind written by Michael Inwood and published by Clarendon Press. This book was released on 2006-11-09 with total page 712 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: G. W. F. Hegel is an immensely important yet difficult philosopher. Philosophy of Mind is the third part of Hegel's Encyclopaedia of the Philosophical Sciences, in which he summarizes his philosophical system. It is one of the main pillars of his thought. Michael Inwood presents this central work to the modern reader in an intelligible and accurate new translation—-the first into English since 1894—-that loses nothing of the style of Hegel's thought. In his editorial introduction Inwood offers a philosophically sophisticated evaluation of Hegel's ideas which includes a survey of the whole of Hegel's thought and detailed analysis of the terminology he used. Extensive commentary notes enhance an edition that makes Hegel interesting to the modern reader.

Book Synopsis Creolizing Hegel by : Michael Monahan
Download or read book Creolizing Hegel written by Michael Monahan and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2017-02-09 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 19th-century German thinker G.W.F. Hegel is a towering figure in the canon of European philosophy. Indeed, most of the significant figures of European Philosophy after Hegel explicitly address his thought in their own work. Outside of the familiar territory of the Western canon, however, Hegel has also loomed large, most often as a villain, but sometimes also as a resource in struggles for liberation from colonialism, sexism and racism. Hegel understood his own work as aiming above freedom, yet ironically wrote texts that are not only explicitly Eurocentric and even racist. Should we, and is it even possible, to bring Hegelian texts and ideas into productive discourse with those he so often himself saw as distinctly Other and even inferior? In response to this question, Creolizing Hegel brings together transdisciplinary scholars presenting various approaches to creolizing the work of Hegel. The essays in this volume take Hegelian texts and themes across borders of method, discipline, and tradition. The task is not simply to compare and contrast Hegel with some 'outsider' figure or tradition, but rather to reconsider and reconfigure our understandings of all of the figures and ideas brought together in these cross-disciplinary essays.

Download or read book Hegel written by Raymond Plant and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-07-23 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1973 this volume demonstrates the interconnection between Hegel's political and metaphysical writings. This book provides a point of entry into Hegel's system of ideas. Condemned unread, and when read far too often misunderstood, Hegel's thought has once more begun to make its impact on contemporary ideas with many of today's most important social and political thinkers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the 'G.W.F. HEGEL - Ultimate Collection,' readers are presented with a comprehensive selection of works by the esteemed philosopher Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel. Known for his complex philosophical systems and dialectical method, Hegel's writings in this collection delve into various topics such as history, religion, art, and politics. His dense and intricate prose can be challenging to navigate, but offers profound insights into the nature of reality and human consciousness. This collection serves as a valuable resource for those interested in delving into the depths of Hegel's philosophical thought and its impact on Western philosophy. Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel, a prominent figure in German idealism, was deeply influenced by the philosophical traditions of Kant and Fichte. His intellectual curiosity and desire to understand the nature of reality led him to develop his unique philosophical system, which continues to be studied and debated by scholars to this day. Hegel's work remains essential reading for anyone seeking to engage with the complexities of modern philosophy and its historical development. I recommend the 'G.W.F. HEGEL - Ultimate Collection' to readers who are willing to embark on a challenging but rewarding intellectual journey through the profound philosophical insights of one of the most influential thinkers in Western philosophy.
