Book excerpt: In this Western romance, a Texas lawman will do anything to protect the courageous woman he only just met—especially if it means marrying her! Texas, 1901. It was quite an introduction, but before sunrise, Sheriff Brace Caulfield knew Sarah Murphy was a woman to match him in every way. She was so determined to rescue her nephew from abuse that she’d put herself smack in the middle of danger. All that would protect her now was an instant wedding—to Brace! A lucky star must have been shining in the wide Western sky the night Sarah Murphy tracked her no-account brother-in-law to Benning, Texas. There she met lawman Brace Caulfield, an imposing, arousing bear of a man who swore she’d be safe and happy-ever-after if she’d just say the words “I do”!

His sense of duty or the love of this woman who may very well be the ruin of everything he holds dear. Charlotte Johnson spent most of her adult life working as a bartender and occasional card dealer in the Holy Moses Saloon. And in all those years, she had made it crystal clear to anyone who pushed that she wasn’t one of the upstairs girls. But forced to defend herself against a persistent customer who refuses to take no for an answer, she hits him over the head with a spittoon bucket. It wasn’t the first time she’d defended herself this way, but this time something went terribly wrong. Now, the man was dead, and she has no choice but to run. A widower with three angry children hell-bent on punishing him for their mother’s death, U.S. Marshal, Jeremy Maxwell, feels like a man twice his age. He’s painfully aware he's walking a fine line between a responsible father and a dedicated lawman. So, when a stranger needing help arrives in his town, he’s convinced she’s the answer to his prayers. But soon, his lawman’s intuition tells him there’s something Charlotte’s not telling, and although the man in him wants to protect her, the lawman in him knows he has a duty to protect his town from her secrets.

From Patrolman "Newt" Stewart, killed by a group of servicemen in February 1900, to Whitesboro chief of police William Thomas "Will" Miller, run down by a vehicle in the line of duty in 1940, Ron DeLord and Cliff Caldwell present a comprehensive chronicle of the brave--and some not so brave--peace officers who laid down their lives in the service of the State of Texas in the first half of the twentieth century.

Hardened lawman Frankie Sullivan spent the last six years running from his destiny and the broken heart she'd left behind. He thought he'd never see her again, but when Maddie Cahill lands on his doorstep one rainy night, he tells himself he could have turned her away if not for the frightened small boy by her side who happens to look a lot like him. Was he just wishing he had another chance at the past or did Maddie have a secret he should know? Either way, the dark-eyed beauty was still wreaking havoc in his carefully constructed world...and the feelings he had for her he thought long dead. Madeline Rose Cahill Carter was running for her life and the life of her young son, Jonah. As the only living heirs to Maddie's family fortune, both she and her son are now targets of her late husband's greedy family who want nothing more than to steal her birthright by taking control of the ranch that has been in her family for four generations. She can't let that happen. She has to protect the Cahill legacy for her son and future generations but to do that, she's gonna need help. There's only one man she trusts who can protect her and her young son against the Carters, but will he be willing after all this time? After the way she'd left? After the way she broke his heart? When the sins of the past return to the present, can unrequited love rebuild burned bridges or will broken hearts be lost among the ashes?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Charles Angelo Siringo (February 7, 1855-October 18, 1928), was an American lawman, detective, and agent for the Pinkerton National Detective Agency during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He was born in Matagorda County, Texas to an Irish immigrant mother and an Italian immigrant father. Siringo attended public school until reaching the age of 15, when he started working on local ranches as a cowboy. After taking part in several cattle drives, Siringo stopped herding to settle down, got married (1884), had a child, and open a merchant business in Caldwell, Kansas. He began writing a book, entitled "A Texas Cowboy: or Fifteen Years on the Hurricane Deck of a Spanish Pony." A year later, it was published, to wide acclaim, and became one of the first true looks into life as a cowboy written by someone who had actually lived the life. Siringo explains that the copyright expired on "A Texas Cowboy," and "A Lone Star Cowboy" was intended to replace it. He added much information on cattle that was not in the first book. Siringo relates many harrowing experiences, such as buffalo hunting, and herding cattle up the Chisholm Trail. He met Billy The Kid and Pat Garrett, and tells the "true" story of Billy's death. This edition of the book contains all 14 of the original illustrations, rejuvenated.

Book excerpt: "A Texas Cowboy" subtitled as "Fifteen Years on the Hurricane Deck of a Spanish Pony" is one of the few books which offers a true look into the life of a real cowboy and that too written by someone who had actually lived the life. Excerpt: "While ranching on the Indian Territory line, close to Caldwell, Kansas, in the winter of '82 and '83, we boys—there being nine of us—made an iron-clad rule that whoever was heard swearing or caught picking grey backs off and throwing them on the floor without first killing them, should pay a fine of ten cents for each and every offense. The proceeds to be used for buying choice literature—something that would have a tendency to raise us above the average cow-puncher..." Charlie Siringo was an American lawman, detective and agent for the Pinkerton National Detective Agency.
