A Fist type, low opening shock, ribbon parachute was used. It is thirty inches in diameter with a special reefing device, consisting of an adjustable length line threaded through 12 small steel rings sewn inside the skirt, and coincidental with the shroughline attachment points. Data were taken at sirspeeds of 27 to 85 fps, and with the model in 7 conditions of reefing (full closed to full open). The reefing system provides a positive means of varying drag area and, therefore, total drag of the subject parachute.
