Download or read book Religion and Society in Spain, c. 1492 written by John Edwards and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-10-28 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The articles in this volume explore both individual and corporate aspects of religion in Spain during the 15th and 16th centuries - Jewish, Christian and Muslim. John Edwards looks in particular at the status, experience, and attitudes of the conversos, those who had converted to Christianity to avoid expulsion from Spain, and at the activities of the Inquisition. In the second part of the book he expands his analysis to examine the social, economic, and political basis of religious conflict in the period. The primary focus of the book is on the cities of Andalucia, Cordoba above all, but its concerns extend to Castile and Aragon as well.

Download or read book Sterrhinae written by Axel Hausmann and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2024-02-06 with total page 600 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Geometrid Moths of Europe volume 2 on Sterrhinae, a number of difficult genera such as Cyclophora, Scopula and Idaea are covered. Especially Idaea with more than 100 species occuring in Europe, has caused a lot of problems to identify, but based on the many specimens illustrated on the 24 colour plates, the species of this genus can be identified much easier now. Apart from its largest species, the genus Idaea is illustrated in 1.5 times natural size. The remaining Sterrhinae are in natural size on the colour plates. On additional black and white photos for species which are difficult to identify, their differential characters are pointed out with arrows. Three new species and three new subspecies are described. A map with the European distribution is given, and with dots for verified specimens. Finally there are line drawings of male and female genitalia of all species and also this volume contains a systematic catalogue of the European species and including those of the neighbouring regions such as North Africa, Macaronesia, Turkey, and the Middle East. Originally published with imprint Apollo (ISBN 9788788757378) in 2004.

Book Synopsis Modern Warfare in Spain by : James W. Cortada
Download or read book Modern Warfare in Spain written by James W. Cortada and published by Potomac Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2014-05-27 with total page 489 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the Spanish Civil War, foreign military officers wrote highly elaborate reports of their experiences at the front. One was attaché Col. Stephen O. Fuqua of the U.S. Army, who had once held the rank of major general. His presence was highly unusual, for most military observers were less-experienced captains, majors, and lieutenant colonels. Fuqua’s reports contained important observations about Spanish armament and troop movements, and he managed to acquire Nationalist propaganda and information despite being situated entirely within Republican military lines. His reporting was considered so valuable that during World War II, Fuqua was tapped to be Time’s military commentator. Editor James W. Cortada brings Fuqua’s--and others’--insightful observations to light. The result is a volume of such immediacy that the reader feels transported to a time of great historical uncertainty amid the twentieth century’s great "dress rehearsal” for fascism and the conflagration of World War II.
