Esse interregno dualista, portanto, calcado naquilo que Putnam considerou uma espécie de "ditadura platônica", induziu-nos constantemente a pensar que mente e corpo são duas realidades distintas e, quiçá, irreconciliáveis. Nosso interior seria acessível apenas ao seu próprio sujeito, sendo sua natureza emancipada de características como extensão, corruptibilidade, entre outras. O fato é que essa imagem de cognição, até o final do século XIX, acabou enfeitiçando a arquitetura das explicações científicas, inclusive aquelas de caráter biológico. Admitir, então, que a marca do biológico pudesse englobar nossas presunções metafísicas significou um sério risco às várias Ciências, entre as quais estavam a Antropologia, a Química e a Psicologia. [...] Nos próximos anos, com o desenvolvimento esperado de ferramentas de realidade aumentada, de deep learning, machine learning, e com as propostas de modificação genética do corpo humano, a filosofia e as ciências cognitivas precisarão continuar, agora em terrenos cada vez mais voláteis, os debates acerca da natureza da mente humana.
