Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Technical Drawing 101 covers topics ranging from the most basic, such as making freehand, multiview sketches of machine parts, to the advanced—creating an AutoCAD dimension style containing the style settings defined by the ASME Y14.5-2009 Dimensioning and Tolerancing standard. But un-like the massive technical drawing reference texts on the market, Technical Drawing 101 aims to present just the right mix of information and projects that can be reasonably covered by faculty, and assimilated by students, in one semester. Both mechanical and architectural projects are introduced to capture the interest of more students and to offer a broader appeal. The authors have also created video tutorials for this book in which they demonstrate how to use many of AutoCAD's tools and commands. The CAD portion of the text incorporates drafting theory whenever possible and covers the basics of drawing setup (units, limits, and layers), the tools of the Draw, Modify, and Dimension toolbars, and the fundamentals of 3D modeling. By focusing on the fundamental building blocks of CAD, Technical Drawing 101 provides a solid foundation for students going on to learn advanced CAD concepts and techniques (paper space, viewports, xrefs, annotative scaling, etc.) in intermediate CAD courses. In recognition of the diverse career interests of our students, Technical Drawing 101 includes projects in which students create working drawings for a mechanical assembly as well as for an architectural project. We include architectural drawing because our experience has shown that many (if not most) first-semester drafting students are interested in careers in the architectural design field, and that a traditional technical drawing text, which focuses solely on mechanical drawing projects, holds little interest for these students. The multidisciplinary approach of this text and its supporting materials is intended to broaden the appeal of the curriculum and increase student interest and, it is hoped, future enrollments.

Book excerpt: The main purpose of this book is to provide civil engineering students with a clear presentation of the theory of engineering graphics and the use of AutoCAD 2014. Each chapter starts with the chapter objectives followed by the introduction. The contents of each chapter are organized into well-defined sections that contain step-by-step instructions to carry out the AutoCAD commands. The drawings shown in this book are created using AutoCAD 2014 and Paint software. Several improvements are made to the fifth edition. The most important improvement is the usage of the ribbon interface. The major contents of the book are based on the ribbon interface. A new chapter titled as AutoCAD 2014 – Classics Interface is created to introduce the classic interface. The index is improved. The Chapter Suggested In-Class Activities provides in-class activities (or ICA). For some of the initial ICAs, it explains the drawing with the help of step-by-step instructions. Also, new problems are added to the homework chapter. Furthermore, the contents and the drawings of every chapter are improved. Each chapter starts with the chapter objectives followed by the introduction. The bulleted objectives provide a general overview of the material covered. The contents of each chapter are organized into well-defined sections that contain detailed step-by-step instruction with graphical illustrations to carry out the AutoCAD commands.

This book was released on 2006 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introduction to Graphics Communication for Engineers is a short introductory technical drawing text intended for use in technical drawing or drafting courses at two and four year schools or other technology programs. Powerful computers and CAD software are of little use to engineers who do not fully understand the fundamentals of graphics communication principles and 3-D modeling strategies, or do not possess a level of visualization ability. Because of this, Bertoline concentrates on the concepts and skills necessary to sketch and create 2-D drawings and 3-D CAD models in this text. New to the third edition are Design in Industry Boxes that cover an aspect of design as practiced in industry. Quotes and interesting stories from practicing engineers make the boxes motivating and informative for students. Also new are practice sketching problems included throughout each chapter, which allow students a chance to practice what they are learning. This book is part of the B.E.S.T. (Basic Engineering Series and Tools), which consists of modularized textbooks offering virtually every topic and specialty likely to be of interest to engineers.

Engineering Design Communication: Conveying Design through Graphics-PRELIMINARY EDITION is a new approach to the traditional foundation course in engineering graphics. The emphasis in the text reflects the changes that many schools are making to their graphics courses, including the importance of sketching, incorporating the coverage of design necessary for effective modeling and use of the 3D solid model as a design database that may be used throughout the engineering design process. *Presents the CAD file as a database of design information that is developed over time. The use of solid and parametric modeling software makes it possible to follow the design process through the course-students first learn to sketch their ideas, transform 2D sketches into 3D models, refine the models and use them for analysis, and finally use the models to document the design. The Designer s Notebook feature highlights the use of sketching in the context of industrial practice helping motivate students to learn to sketch well. *Introduces topics that will help students learn to reflect design intent in their models. Building effective models that will update corre
