Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Teaching is an essential skill in becoming a faculty member in any institution of higher education. Yet how is that skill actually acquired by graduate students? Teaching as if Learning Matters collects first-person narratives from graduate students and new PhDs that explore how the skills required to teach at a college level are developed. It examines the key issues that graduate students face as they learn to teach effectively when in fact they are still learning and being taught. Featuring contributions from over thirty graduate students from a variety of disciplines at Indiana University, Teaching as if Learning Matters allows these students to explore this topic from their own unique perspectives. They reflect on the importance of teaching to them personally and professionally, telling of both successes and struggles as they learn and embrace teaching for the first time in higher education.

Book excerpt: I am a Teacher (My trysts with life, truth, system & happiness) India’s first Teacher empowerment book In today’s knowledge society Economic growth of a Nation is dependent on the quality of Education system. International Research found out that if two average eight year old students were given different teachers – one of them a high performer; the other a low performer – their performance diverge by more than 50 percentile points within three years. So, a teacher makes all the difference. But in spite of these realities Teachers are a relatively underserved community in terms of support, training, resources and products. As primary agents of change, teachers—more than anyone else—need to be equipped with best-in-class resources and knowledge to enable better education. Apart from this the education community has also not focused sufficiently on teacher motivation and empowerment. With this background in mind AIETS proudly presents India’s first Teacher empowerment book. I am a Teacher Based on the story of Suniana, a school teacher, this book reveals Suniana’s experiences, joys and sorrows, her ups and downs in the course of her journey as a teacher. Suniana’s success story can be the success story of every teacher provided he/she is equipped with the tools to deal with his/her particular problem. Like Suniana if each of us aspires to be among the best, we will be making our children into not just citizens of India but global citizens– ready to take on the world! The books is meant for all teachers, educators, parents and every citizen who believes that quality education is the key driver of economic growth and prosperity of any country. The book will help teachers increase skills, enhance professional development and maximize classroom learning time. The book is loaded with inspirational and humorous stories that highlight the joys and rewards of teaching without ignoring the realities of the job. The book is a must for every teacher who is passionate about his job, who is looking forward to improve himself, who believes in motivating his/ her students. The book is a must for every parent who is, by default, teacher to his/ her ward. We teach our children a lot of things, directly or indirectly. You must read it if you want to understand them better and to change their understanding for better. The book is a must for every leader who wishes to lead by example thus motivating his peers and subordinates. The book is a must for every Indian citizen who wishes to spread awareness among the under privileged to bring about a lasting change in the social fabric about motivating youth to take up the challenges of the Modern India."

Book Synopsis Lesbian Teachers by : Madiha Didi Khayatt
Download or read book Lesbian Teachers written by Madiha Didi Khayatt and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 1992-11-03 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Teachers, in general, are hired to conform with set values of the community which hires them. They are expected to reflect conventions which correspond with an ideological model of behavior sanctioned by the state and by the community in which they work. In a publicly funded educational system, not only are teachers expected to transmit dominant ideologies, but, as representatives of the state, they are assumed to embody the dominant values of the society which hires them. The notion of lesbian teachers inevitably contradicts mainstream assumptions about female teachers—women whose image stereotypically corresponds with and implicitly conveys traditional female "virtues" of purity, dedication, and nurturance. Using an analysis that combines feminist concepts of patriarchy with Gramsci's notion of hegemony, this book is an institutional ethnography which begins from the standpoint of lesbian teachers, but, at the same time, locates their experiences in the immediate social organization from which they arise and which gives them meaning. Through intensive interviews with nineteen lesbian teachers, Khayatt explores these womens' lives as they themselves describe them: How do they conceal their sexuality? How do lesbian teachers cope in the classroom? How do they deal with their perceived need to live a double life? To whom do they come out? Why do they feel unsafe to be out despite the potential protection of legal rights? And, finally, what would they stand to lose if found out?

Book Synopsis Becoming a teacher education researcher by : Diane Mayer
Download or read book Becoming a teacher education researcher written by Diane Mayer and published by Critical Publishing. This book was released on 2021-01-18 with total page 77 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You can successfully develop your higher education research profile while balancing the demands of training teachers and administration. While teacher education is key to preparing qualified teachers who can educate pupils for the demands of the twenty-first century, many university-based teacher educators experience conflicting demands in their professional practice. Their lives are often so dominated by teaching and associated work that their aspirations to develop a research profile are hampered. This text explores the critical issues faced by those working in teacher education and how they have negotiated the expectations and requirements of the Academy to establish themselves as leading international teacher education researchers. Through a series of autobiographical cases, this book demonstrates a range of trajectories in different contexts which have facilitated the development of teacher educators' successful research profiles. Understandings and realities of the policy context, the professional context, the research context (including funding, metrics, type of research valued), the institutional context and various personal positionings are examined in order to illuminate stories of research success and demonstrate their relevance to all teacher educators.
